“A memorable Kansas experience”
Castle Rock is a large limestone pillar landmark in Gove County, Kansas. The formation and the nearby badlands are located in the Smoky Hills region of Kansas, which is approximately 11 miles south of I-70 near Quinter, Kansas. *NOTE: Larger vehicles with a higher clearance or AWD/4WD are necessary.*
Very cool place! Very isolated and seems like you're driving forever and going nowhere fast, but it's definitely worth it! It's about 20 minutes from I-70. Recommendation for navigating around, when you go over the grates, go left and it'll take you around the front. Unless you have a truck or SUV, you'll need to go back the way you came in. If you do have a truck or SUV, there's a hill with some holes you should be able to make it up, which will lead you back to to grates you went over to get in the area.
Wow!!! This place is amazing and no one knows about it! We went on a Sunday on our way to Colorado and practically had the place to ourselves. DEFINITELY worth the stop.. it was my favorite discovery in our road trip. You can spend hours hiking and taking pictures here. Such a great find :)
Very cool place. Hard to believe it was in Kansas. We made it in Ford Explorer.
TOTALLY WORTH THE SIDE TRIP! Be forewarned it is a longer drive than anticipated from Quinter. It is 20 miles of dirt road. Takes 30-40 minutes. We all had a great time and spent much longer than I planned on. It is on private land and there is nothing else out there. It is really amazing and my littlest loved it. Take lots of pictures and roam around, but please don’t climb all over the formations. It is a delicate structure and if everyone climes it, it would be gone in not time.
They now have signs towards the place, so at least you know you are not lost.
Not only the rock itself is magnificent, the badlands are wonderful too.
This place was fantastic. I really enjoyed it
