Site Info: [Site #62] Buck Hill is a quiet community tucked into the mountain valley. We were a bit concerned when we arrived to see the bridge that we needed to cross to get into the park. We still wonder if it’s really rated for a big rig. There was only one other big rig in the park while we were there. Our second issue was finding where to check in. There’s a house at the top of the hill but no signs indicating that’s the office. Do not attempt to drive your rig or camper/trailer to the house as there is very limited area to turn around. The owners are super nice and very willing to help with anything you need. It seems that about 80-90% of the residents are long term as most have built decks and done their own site landscaping. Several of the RVs were empty until the weekend. Given this the park is actually quite neat and well kept. Several of the sites back up to the river that runs along the park, however it looks like maybe only a couple of those are used by short timers. The parking pads are crushed rock and grass and are pretty level. Our particular site was pretty close to our neighbor but there are other sites that have more space. There are several cute cabins that surround a pond on the property. We wanted to rate it 4 stars but the lack of connectivity was an issue for us.
Wifi/Cable: No cable and the wifi is pretty bad (the owner said they are only able to get DSL)
Hook-ups: Full hook-ups, 50 amps, and our site was pretty new.
Dogs: There’s lots of open space to walk your dog around the park and everyone is good about keeping their dogs on leash. There’s a trail that runs up to the top of Buck Hill if you’re looking for something a little more strenuous. No breed restrictions mentioned.
Location: About 20 min access to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Crabtree falls, Linville falls, and Grandfather mountain are all within 30 min of the park. Ingles is about 20 min away.
Restaurants are limited but the Blind Squirrel Brewery is a nice option close by.
Ease of Access: Small two lane, windy roads to get here, but that’s to be expected given the area.
Ease of Reservation: No online booking. I had to call, leave a message and call again to set up a reservation.

Buck Hill campground was exactly what we were looking for!! My son (6) and I were looking for an adventure in the NC mountains, and we are so happy we found Buck Hill campground! We stayed in the ADORABLE camping cabin (the little blue one) and it was seriously so much fun. It was perfect for what we needed - we spent most of our time outside, so we didn't need much inside. But even inside the cabin was much better than I expected! It was very clean, had two little lanterns (which was great because we came in from out of state and while I knew we'd need sheets I didn't even THINK about flashlights for going to the bath house at night!) and a wall lamp and microwave. It has a porch with a table and chairs, and also a fire pit off to the side of the porch, with a picnic table next to it. My son and I stayed up WAYYYY past dark, chasing fireflies and hunting for bullfrogs in the pond. It had a real family feel to it, and I honestly felt so at home. We are already planning our next trip, during which we will absolutely make it a point to stay here again. I can't recommend this spot more highly!

I have been camping most of my life. I have camped at Buckhill campground twice in the last two years. The campground and owners are first class. There is everything you need laundry, showers, bathrooms propane plus river access. Anyone in doubt feel feel to call me. I live in Florida and plan on going back. 772-302-0691. Enjoy your stay Heinz

Great place to stay. Fishing in the pond or beautiful Toe river. Hiking with a panoramic view of distant mountains. People are friendly. Don't forget to check out the sky at night.
Well maintained and river site. Limited connectivity, no AT&T and sometimes 1 bar of Verizon

90% of the park are seasonal but everything is well kept and maintained. Nice and quiet during the week, and even when the full timers show up on the weekend, it’s still quiet and sleepy. We backed right up to the river, there are plenty of amenities for families. Cellular coverage is poor. It’s a twisty road to get in, but easily doable. 40’ + rigs may be a challenge.

Very nice campground in a valley along a river. They have several sites backing up to the river. Very nice owners. Easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and all its sights. They have a bathroom/bath house with a common room, a game room with video games and a nice playground for kids. We came in October when the leaves were changing and it was beautiful. Very quiet except for the slight sounds of cars on the far side of the river. Don’t be startled when you turn in and have to cross the seemingly wooden bridge!
