“for shopping, dining or just casual strolling, no place in New Orleans beats Magazine Street”
Magazine Street is a major thoroughfare in New Orleans, Louisiana. Like Tchoupitoulas Street, St. Charles Avenue, and Claiborne Avenue, it reflects the curving course of the Mississippi River. The street took its name from an ammunition magazine located on the street in colonial times. The street may have also been named after the Spanish word magazin or almazon which means "warehouse." The story goes that in 1877, General James Wilkinson from Kentucky made a controversial trip to New Orleans to trade American products with the Spanish. Wilkinson managed to persuade Spanish Governor Esteban Miro to allow Kentucky to monopolize trade of the Mississippi River. Wilkinson became an official agent and a warehouse, or magazin was built for him. Throughout the month of December: Opening Party November 30. Along Magazine Street in New Orleans.
