Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on March 22, 2022Centrally located pit toilet, single hole. Toilet paper sometimes available, sometimes not - I bring the good stuff, no running water or electric service, one street light at the latrine, dirt/gravel road one way in and out. The road condition can be a bit rough for trailers or low clearance cars as they don't grade it often. I have never seen anything larger than a teardrop size camper here, almost exclusively tents. Honor system fee at the entrance board is $10 per night. First come, first served, the spaces fill up quickly Friday afternoons on the weekend when the weather is nice. The somewhat undefined sites can accommodate large groups or single tents. Lots of trees for hammock camping. Very tall pines mostly, so not super shaded. I suggest checking for widowmakers as the winds can pick up this close to the mountain and drop a high limb with little warning. Cell service is non-existent for some carriers, I have had some luck with T-Mobile but a weak signal is common. The only negative about this campground might be the occasional group that makes a lot of noise, most folks are cool just like in the real world. The Chinabee Silent Trail runs through the campground - you can hike south up to the ridgetop of Talldega Mountain and make connection with the Pinhoti and Odum Trails. A word of warning - the last 3/4 mile is very strenuous, but when you make 2100' the view is worth the effort. Or try the much easier north direction about 2.5 miles to Cheaha Falls and on from there to Lake Chinabee a few miles further.

Turnipseed was a great little find, about 8 drive up, first come, first serve spots.
Campsite is located on the Pinhoti trail.
We did try this place in December/January but it was closed (seasonally), so we defaulted to the state park up the street.
$5.
One nice vault toilet for the entire campground.
No water or electric otherwise.

Beautiful scenic (paved) drive to Turnipseed. Follow the GPS coordinates and they’ll take you right to the turnoff sign. Once you turn off the paved road, the access road is rough and not graded. If your vehicle was riding low, you could ground it in the middle. My AWD Subaru did fine.
There are several marked trails for hiking you’ll see as you drive in. When arriving at 6pm, four of the 10 campsites were occupied. I stayed in site 10. The ground is uneven there and good padding under sleeping bag (if tent camping) is needed. This site is excellent for hammock camping.
Campsites are huge, nicely distanced apart, and very private. Beautiful forest trees, flora and fauna. Look up for widow-makers.
There are lots of bees and aggressive mosquitoes. Cooking here is a challenge without being eaten alive. There are several bear-proof garbage cans around the campground to dispose of all food garbage.
Lots of loud nature-noise after sunset. There are some loud crows. You can hear vehicles drive past on the paved road, but it’s infrequently.
0 to 2 bars 1X on Verizon cell (I had no service).

Really nice primitive FCFS sites. One vault toilet for entire campground. Plenty of tall pines perfect for hammocks! Peaceful breeze through the trees. $5/night. Bring your own TP, it seems they run out quick.
I stayed at site 2. The campground was pretty full on a Friday night, so I was lucky to get a spot at 6:30 pm. I saw one other spot available. It looks like there are 10, maybe 12 sites total.
Fire ring has swing grill attached, perfect for a skillet or packets. You can forage for fallen wood. A camp saw would come in handy. You also get a picnic table and a lantern/bag hook. The sites are well spread apart, but not totally private. People were respectful.
I had an enjoyable, peaceful night.
