Lost Lake Butte Trail

Lost Lake Butte Trail ascends at a moderate grade passing through timber that diminishes in size with elevation. The last 3/4 mile ascends steeply via a series of switchbacks to the 4468' summit. Just below the summit, visitors can find remains of an old fire lookout. On a clear day, the trail features views of Mount Hood, Jefferson, Rainier, St. Helens and Adams. In addition, visitors can enjoy views of Mt. Defiance and Larch, the Indian Mountains, Lost Lake and the upper Hood River Valley. Directions from Hood River: Travel south on Highway 35 for approximately 14 miles to Woodworth Road (one mile north of the community of Mount Hood - watch for winery sign). Follow Woodworth Road three miles west to Dee Highway 281. Follow 281 north for approximately five miles to the Dee Hardboard Plant. Make a sharp left turn, cross the bridge and stay left. Follow the signs to Lost Lake. The trail begins in the campground near the first road junction but its better to park where the trail crosses Road 1340.
