In April 2011, the area was hit hard with a tornado. Six of seven bathhouses were destroyed. All of the campsite had trees and tree cover. It has been rebuilt. All of the sites closet to the lake are without trees now. Because I was staying a month, I was put into the back (Section B and H are for those staying a month). You'd think I wouldn't have like it as much because I couldn't see the lake but it was hot (to me) and Section B is on a little rise so it didn't lose as much foliage. I had a shade and I really liked it. The park has a lodge, golf, zip lining (fun and scary!), water sports, an outdoor theater (movies on Friday and Saturday nights) , hiking (guided hike by naturalist on Saturdays) and a herd of deer who come to the campground most nights at dusk. There is not feeding the deer but lots of people do it because they walk right up to you. It has full hookups, some cabins and some primitive sites. I loved it and will come back again when I'm in the area.

Right on a river. Beautiful place. Nice walking spots within campground. Beautiful beach. Camp store. Bath house and shower nice and clean. Has plenty of washer and dryers. Very peaceful spot which was very roomy. Drive in from south was fun with sharp and curvy narrow road. Million dollar views of the river. Hosts and camp store girls was very kind and helpful.

We stayed for a week and found the park convenient for visiting sights in the area, Cathedral Caverns, The US Space & Rocket Center, and best of all zip lining just minutes away at the Guntersville Lodge. The views from the Lodge decks are amazing. We even rented a boat nearby at Town Creek Fishing Center and got a different view of the lakeshore and the homes. The Lighthouse house viewed from the boat was pretty awesome.

We chose to stay here to do the Zipline adventure located in the State Park near the lodge. Rate reflects fees/taxes.
We arrived on a Thursday during the Covid-19 shutdowns. The campground was about 1/3 full. Check-in was through a store window and no info or maps given. By Friday afternoon, the campground was almost completely full.
Our site was a 50 amp FHU, level, gravel site. The sites varied CONSIDERABLY in quality. Some were full concrete pads with large outdoor areas. Others had large shade trees. And others looked much shorter than listed and had the sewer/electrical/water at the very front of the site which made it difficult for some to make the connections.
The campground is right by the lake, but the beach was closed due to Covid-19. There are a number of pretty hiking trails in the park. There was a dog park, tennis courts, etc., but again, many things were shut down. The highlight for us was the Zipline adventure which took you through trees on the ridge overlooking the lake.
Verizon adequate for streaming with a booster most of the time.

This park was not the easiest to get to as it is in the mountains. Very good 2-lane much of the way. Not much room for error coming in but we plan to come back. Wife checked out the spot assigned to us and was unsure we could get in. It really was not an issue. We came at our spot from the wrong direction and had to go to the end of the road to turn around ... then it was easy. Duh! We arrived on Saturday so the weekend crowd was fully entrenched. Plenty of room by Sunday afternoon. They do have some new concrete pads that we were too late for. They would have been great but the spot we had was very nice. Had to get out extra leveling blocks but no problem getting level. We are getting good coverage on Dish HD and Sprint Mifi so we had plenty of entertainment options. The best entertainment, however was driving through the park observing wildlife and spectacular views. Alabama Parks are simply top notch. Guntersville is an historic town. Do some homework and you will be rewarded.

You drive up and down a mountain to get there, but it’s awesome one you get there. D loop is right by the docks. Caught plenty of fish from the docks. Neighbors were amazing. Had a bad storm blow through and everyone was helping make sure everyone had their stuff secured. Already booked a site for next July.

One of the best state parks we’ve ever stayed at. Many amenities- golf course, zip line, basketball courts, playground. Camped here over Thanksgiving in a Class A RV. Loved the lakeside campground. Would definitely camp here again

This is our weekend getaway park. It is an hour or so away from home. It would be a more consistent getaway for us if WiFi was available. Fun to swim, fish, boat at this place. The workers in the office are very nice and store is pretty well stocked with a good amount of needs.

We really enjoyed our time at Lake Guntersville State Park. It was a very nice and clean park. This park is all about site placement. If you watch our linked youtube video I give you the site recomendations. The weather wasn't all too cooperative when we went, but it was a nice place. In the summertime a little more shade would probably be helpful.
