White Mountain Grasslands Dispersed Camping

There are many dispersed camping opportunities along this county road that parallels the White Mountain Grasslands Wildlife Area. Fish Creek winds along the main road providing opportunity for stream side camping. The road is well maintained, even during the spring snow melt and is regularly traveled by locals. There is a private inholding in the area, please respect private property.

The sites are varied in size, some are pull through and able to take a large rig.

The sites are fairly flat. They are very muddy during snow melt season and I would not recommend camping in the area until May. The second site on the road is perfect for solar and Starlink. It also is a common gathering spot for elk. One morning we awoke to a herd of 200 outside our RV.

The third site is against Fish Creek. It is fully shaded and would be nice for someone who likes to sleep to the sound of water.

The road entry had 2 bars of Verizon 4G and 1 bar of AT&T 4G. This varies along the road, with some sites having no coverage. There is zero cellular coverage or Starlink coverage after 5pm each day. The system goes down at that time.

I camped there with my guy babies. Beautiful scenery lots of hiking. It’s quiet and serene! Need to pack in and pack out and watch for bears and other wildlife. Got to see an elk as well.
