Park is nice and the Rangers are very helpful. The sites are mostly rock and some don't have covered picnic tables.

The State Park and campground is located in a picturesque canyon 3 miles north of the town Ft Davis. The campground is an old CCC project and while many sites are designed for smaller rigs, we have seen several Class As in the park. When reserving online definitely check the site specs. Interior roads and site pads are asphalt. Single bathhouse centrally located is very clean. E/W hookups are awkwardly positioned either in the back of the site or on the “wrong” Awning side requiring longer power and water lines. There was no cell or wifi service and park provided wifi was virtually useless. Numerous hiking trails are within the park boundary as well as a scenic drive along a ridge. Some interest CCC constructed structures are found through the park. The Indian Lodge is a beautiful building further in the park. Outside excursions to Ft Davis National Historic Site offers a wonderfully preserved frontier fort and intimate view into life on the frontier during the mid-1800s. 23 miles north in Hwy 118 you will find Madera Canyon a beautiful 2.5 mile hike through a nature preserve. The town of Fort Davis while very cute and well preserved offers only one grocery store and two gas stations- arrive well supplied. Rate reflects an addition $6/person Use fee (without TX Parks Pass)

The campground is well maintained and has large flat and wooded lots for privacy. Bathrooms were clean and the whole area was quiet and beautiful. The campground was full when we arrived, but the rangers accommodated us in the primitive equine area which was lovely. We saw a javelina right outside our camp. This area offers easy access to McDonald Observatory and we highly recommend the night program. Online said there were no tickets, but we had no problem joining a program. I would absolutely stay here again.

Stayed at site 41. Very good spacing between sites. It was also quite level, asphalt. Restaurant available in the Lodge, but be sure to check their schedule. No cell service, but if you drive (or hike) to the top of the Skyline Drive there is good strong service. Great trails, very scenic. Nice weather in April.

We got so lucky to grab a 9 nite cancellation and enjoyed staying here very much. The area has much to do ie:Davis Mountains Scenic Drive, hiking in abundance, the McDonald Observatory (get tickets in advance for tours), day trips to Marfa or Alpine if your route doesn't go thru them, bicycling, the historic Fort Davis National Site, the cute little town of Fort Davis, and there's a dude ranch right up the road if that's your thing.
Make sure to go check out the Indian Lodge within the park, it's really cool! And keep an eye out, you'll likely see wildlife. We saw deer, javalina, and tons of birds--it's one of those TX birding parks.
I'm surprised anyone reports cell service. Our Verizon worked well on the top of the scenic overlook, but in the CG nothing. They do have a free public WIFI, but I didn't use it, so can't report.
The shower house was fine and while the lighting in it was dim, I think thats because this is a Dark Sky Park. The stars here a phenomenal!
The power was clean, water pressure was high, and the sewer HU was not really useful because "it doesn't flow uphill". We used blocks to level our site-no big deal.

We spent the evening in Marfa them drove the 20 minutes to this campsite to escape the high hotel prices in the area. We arrived late and left early in the morning so didn’t explore the park much.
We stayed in the water only area and stayed in a tent. The sites were right on the man road through the park and there were vehicles driving around until at least 10pm. If we stayed again, we would go to the electric hookup sites which are farther from the road and the same price. We paid $15 but have the Texas State Park pass; it would have been $27 without it.
The only real issue we had was a wild boar that wandered around our tent throughout night. It didn’t interact with us, but it was disconcerting to hear oinking a few feet away.
All in all, it was a convenient location and a low price for the area so can’t complain too much.

I work remote - so cell service is an absolute. Previous review said att had 3 bars - I should have noted it was in 2018! No cell service to speak of (wife has verizon - and she was at zero as well) - but a GREAT site and I'll be back when I can vacation.

The good: Nice and quiet on weekdays...not so on weekends.
Excellent trails right from the park and your camp site.
Close by to other interesting attractions. The Fort, McDonald observatory.
Bad: No cell service period. Rest rooms were iffy and the women's was cold water only.

This was our first visit to this state park. Site 15 is a pull thru site with electric, water and sewer. All worked well. It was not heavily shaded but the picnic table has a roof over it for shade. The sites opposite us (such as 3 or 4) provided a little more shade during the day. The pad is asphalt and was fairly level. As others have noted, no cell service or wifi. The Interpretive Center does have wifi which you can access inside (when it's open) or outside if closed. We did tours at McDonald Observatory, drove up the Skyline Drive and hiked the Montezuma Quail trail (nice views overlooking the campground). We saw deer, a javalina and a number of colorful birds we've never seen in the Houston area at our camp site. There are two bird watching areas where they have a number of bird feeders out which was nice.
