It is run by the city, so it is self pay and no attendees. However, the police did patrol the campground. Would definitely stay there again.
Ellis Lakeside Campground was a hidden find on a dark and stormy night. With repeated tornado warnings and a very dark sky, we sheltered under a bridge for a while, then left the Interstate at the Ellis exit, hoping to find safe shelter in case the storm worsened. All of the RV parking slots at the truck stop on both sides of the access road were taken. We continued driving into the town of Ellis, and were amazed to find a sign pointing to this city-run campground with a notice that a tornado shelter was available. We left cash for the overnight in an envelope box, but because we left early, we saw no one to thank for the safe and restful overnight. It wasn't until morning that we realized it was situated on a small lake. Thank you, City of Ellis.
Great little stop along the way! $20 includes water and electric. Quaint old town we walked through. At 4 pm it was 1/2 full but by 9 there were only 2 spots open. We didn't use the showers or bathroom so couldn't say. Friendly town.
Were planning a trip next summer with another couple and coming from Zeigler, Illinois and heading to The Stanley Hotel in Co, and a few other sites along the way. I found all these reviews very helpful as well will be camping along the way instead of doing the hotel thing. I do think that we will give your Camp Ground a try, we look forward to seeing you in 2020.
This was a great city-run park for an overnight stay while traveling I-70. It's less than a mile off the interstate (though the local roads in Ellis are old and bumpy for a motorhome) and easy to get to. There are 17 pull-through sites that vary in length with #1 about 100' long and sites gradually getting shorter as you continue down the road. Each has electric and water, and there's a dump station in the center of the park. Since it's a self-service park you pick your site, fill out a form, and drop your money in the box at the entrance. It's first-come first-served (no reservations), but since we arrived on a Monday afternoon in late September we had no problem finding a site. Many sites have 50 amp service, but after we parked we discovered that our site (#1) only had 30 amp, so be aware if you need 50 amp. Utilities are shared between adjacent sites, so you also need to pay attention to which direction you should pull in (alternating). Our site was very wide, and with the utilities arranged between sites our motorhome's electric cord just barely reached the pedestal. There's a train nearby with a loud horn but we only heard it rarely, and not overnight. The free WiFi was fast when it worked, but we often found it froze for 5-10 minutes at a time or kicked us off. We found it worked great as an overnight stop (if you can risk getting there and finding it full) and would gladly stay again, but we probably wouldn't do a longer stay. Both Verizon and AT&T worked well.

We stayed overnight in our 42 ft motor home with Jeep in tow. About 16 sites. first come-first serve, local police stopped by and introduced themselves, nice area to walk our four legged companion.

This is just a few minutes off I-70, I have all the Verizon I need, I'm parked on a charming lake in a charming small town, all for $20. I am used to dry camping for free as much as possible, but there's not much of that in this area, but for $20 I am getting electric and an impossibly lovely small town environment. I gave noise at 3 only because I can't objectively rate it today - 4th of July LOL

The water-view sites at Ellis Lakeside Campground were a welcome sight after a long day of driving through Kansas.
There were 4 or 5 sites available to choose from when we arrived around 4:30 on a Saturday. By the time it was dark, there weren't any available and many late arrivals had to leave to find another place for the night.
Sites are long pull-throughs, so since we didn't have to unhitch (always a bonus for 1 night stops).
We were able to get CBS on over the air HDTV.

Our small caravan pulled in here late at night after driving 20mph through a crazy Kansas I-70 thunderstorm. All the sites are pull-throughs with electric and water. There is a dump station by the bathhouse that is convenient to use on your way out. You pay by check or cash at the front Kiosk or by card at city hall. Our site had a view of the river and some tall oaks. We didn't go in to town but it seemed like a nice little town with all the necessary shops. The showers were hot and the stalls were clean. There is WiFi here but we were unable to connect.
From here it's not a far drive to the Monuments just outside of Oakley Kansas.

$20 in season, $15 off season. You can pay at the police station, city hall or at the self pay station. (NOTE: The envelopes and self pay receipts are under the lid of the rectangular sign to the right of the self pay station. It clearly states ENVELOPES and SELF PAY RECEIPT - just lift the lid.) Nice park, easy access to long pull-through sites. You pull in or back in in alternating directions for the services to be properly placed. There are large trees at the front and back of each site, but they didn't interfere with our entry or exit. The odd numbered sites face the large grassy field, the even numbered sites face the lake. Sites 1 and 2 have 30 amp receptacles. Sites 3 and 4 have 30 and 50 amp receptacles. Sites 5 and 6 have 30 and 50 amp receptacles. Site 7 is a handicapped space with 30 amp electric. Site 8 has 50 amp. Sites 9 through 14 have 30 amp receptacles. With our RV roughly centered in the site, we needed about 28' of hose to reach the water faucet. There are no sewer hookups at the sites, but there is a dump station by the restrooms/showers near site 7. Most sites had a picnic table and a pedestal grill. I didn't visit the restroom/showers for the women, but my husband reported that the restroom/showers for the men were some of the nicest/cleanest he'd ever seen in an RV park. He also liked that the shower faucet is one you turn on and then off when you're finished, not the type you have to keep pressing every few seconds. There were a few OTA channels. Verizon cell and data service worked well. We would stay again if passing through the area.
