Confirmed by 4 users | Last reported on May 30, 2023Passed through this park for one night on a week long road trip. It is only 5 or 6 miles from I-70 at the Dorrance exit.
We stayed on a Wednesday night in mid-September and there were maybe a dozen sites occupied in the whole facility, which made for a nice quiet stay.
We stayed in Eagle Loop at site 16 (E16) which is right on the water and provides beatiful views. The pad is loose gravel and moderately level. We did need to use the "lego" pads to get the coach level, so be prepared.
Water spigots were available throughout the campground and we could drive up to one at an unoccupied electric & water site to fill our fresh tank. If the campground was at capacity, you would have had to use a spigot in the common/shared space and I don't think you be able to drive close enough to hook a hose up unless you have 50' or more of hose.
Dump station is available, although we did not use it. In the Eagle Loop, the public restrooms and showers were clean, modern and all appeared to be in working order, although we did not use the showers.
Our OTA TV antenna had 3 of its 5 bars lit up, but we did not watch any TV and cannot confirm which stations are available in the area.
We had strong and reliable unboosted signal for both Verizon and AT&T. I was able to create a hotspot for my laptop and get some work done in the evening.
It got a bit buggy at dusk, but hey, you are camping near water so there will be bugs.
All in all, very enjoyable experience at a well maintained USACE facility.
There were some campsites designated as "Walk Up Only", meaning "First Come First Served", but I would recommend making your reservations in advance on www.recreation.gov to ensure you have a site when you arrive.

Pros:
- Very clean, safe, peaceful, large, well maintained campsites... many directly on the lake
- Lake is clean, safe, with warm, swimmable water in September
- LOTS of fish biting and jumping out of the water at sunrise
- Lots of boats and kayaks to watch from the shoreside at sunset
- A true oasis in Kansas... the perfect stop on I70 to break up a long drive
Cons:
- 2 night minimum stay on weekends
- Not all campsites are full hookups... in fact, some of the best are primitive, but that could be a plus too

Not far from I-70 in central Kansas is this clean well kept campground. Lots of water activity including a swim beach. We reserved a site but when we arrived the site was still occupied so we selected another site and were very happy as nearly all sites have a view of the lake. I believe that the 6:00pm checkout is the issue so know that going in.

Would have never guessed this beautiful campground was off of I70 in Kansas! Wow, so peaceful and absolutely gorgeous. Well maintained with electric and water, plus a dump site on location. Wish we had time to stay longer.

High wind & hail & tornado warnings stalled our trip east along I 70, we wound up in the Walmart at Hays then found this place about 45 minutes East. It was off season so a self pay station with a $20 per night utility fee for off season. 157 sites and only 2 of us here in mid April. At the time the closest Passport-America park was $25 + $5 for electric and I'm sure not as scenic as this is!
The A loop is all pull throughs with a more than a few that would fit our 61' truck trailer combo and our jeep.
Sites are electric & water on this loop and there are multiple dump stations available.
Had good Verizon & AT&T coverage and plenty of sky for my dish Sattelite and starlink dishy.

The campground seems very nice.
Unfortunately, it rained the entire time we were there, so we did not really get to enjoy it.
The $11 price reflects the discount with a Lifetime Senior Pass.

Great place to camp while traveling I-70 in Kansas. Approx 6 miles north of Interstate. Wanted power to run A/Cs in ~100 degree heat. Got site B03 w/o a reservation. 50 & 30 amp power plus water. Dump site near entrance/exit. Plenty of room between sites, many of which are water-front on Wilson Lake. $12 nightly rate reflects discount using Senior National Park Pass.

This BLM campground on Lake Wilson is a pleasant surprise. Surrounded by hills and colored rocks, the lake is large and the campground sites all have a great view! Sunsets and Sunrises were breathtaking! About 7 miles from I70, this CG is very quiet. There are several campgrounds on the lake, but we prefer BLM. Most sites have electricity and some offer water. During our visit, we experienced unexpected wind guests and rain, but still a pleasant experience. Being September the campground was empty but for 5 others.

This BLM campground is one of our new favorites. It’s one of several on Wilson lake. Plenty of spacious sites with fire rings and tables, Most have electricity and some water. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises. During our visit, we experienced some strong wind gusts and rain. Overall a great experience!
Not far from I70 but far from civilization and noise.

6 miles off the I-70. Lake is 100% full. On the C loop at C09. Mix of shade and sun, close to the boat ramp, nice breeze to keep the bugs away. Sure beats sitting in a hotel room. Brand new electric pedestals with 30A and 20A but no 50 at this site. No water hook up but there are sites with water for another 6 bucks. This site has a water station right there so charged up the fresh water tank. Campground was only about 30% full on Memorial Day. Never been here before but will be back for sure.
