Canning Creek Cove Park is located on the 3,310-acre Council Grove Lake in the green expanses of eastern Kansas. Recreation
Boating is a popular pastime at the lake, and two boat ramps are located in the campground for visitors' convenience.
The lake is known for its fishing opportunities, with crappie and catfish being the most abundant. Council Grove was also the first lake in Kansas to receive stocking of Saugeye.

Council Grove Lake sits in the rolling, grassy prairie of east Kansas, known as the Flint Hills. The lake was created by a dam built in 1964, and now offers recreational opportunities to hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
Historically this area is where the Osage Indians signed a treaty to establish the Old Santa Fe Trail. A marker in the town of Council Grove indicates the place where the treaty was signed.
Nearby Attractions
The town of Council Grove, located about 2 miles southeast of the lake, is a National Historic District, with seven Santa Fe National Historic Trail sites in the community.

Canning creek campground is only one of six COE campgrounds around this lake quite near Council Grove, Kansas. In this campground all the campsites are on the lake shore. The sites are not squeezed and there is plenty of shade. Electricity and Water at the sites and a dump station at the campground.
There is an entrance booth. Our rate was $9.50 using our Golden Age card. We loved the campground.

We picked a windy weekend to camp but found a good spot just steps from the lake shore. This was our second time to Council Grove lake but our first to this campground. Council Grove is a neat Midwest town. Nice shops, great coffee shop (Watts Coffee Co) and they just recently opened a brewery.
Cell coverage wasn’t great the first evening but during the day we consistently got 2 bars of LTE.
We were in a group of 4 spots but only two were filled so it was extremely quite (other than the wind). The check in was extremely smooth.

Stayed 5/21-23/2024 for $12.50 per night (with America the Beautiful Senior Pass). Most sites are along lakeside and are concrete back-in and well-spaced. Our level site was a gravel pull-through near a boat launch ramp and the shower house (4 individual, lockable, toilet/showers). Views of Council Grove Lake and dam are from most sites. (3 group site areas located inland to accomodate many RVs.)
