“A piece of Oregon beauty”
Wahkeena Falls is a 242 foot (73 m) waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge in the state of Oregon. The waterfall is unlike nearby Multnomah Falls in that the water does not directly plunge to the ground. Wahkeena Falls, rather, has a more subtle cascading flow. These falls have been featured in numerous travel guides and in photography books. Spellings of this name are dubious because the word is an English transliteration of a Native American (reportedly Yakama) phrase meaning most beautiful. Wahkeena Falls is along the Historic Columbia River Highway, about 13 miles (21 km) east of Troutdale, Oregon. A 0.2-mile (320 m) hike from the parking lot at the base leads to the stone bridge that crosses the main part of the falls. That trail continues on east to Multnomah Falls, the next falls to the east. This waterfall is visible directly from the Historic Columbia River Highway.
This is another nice waterfall that is just west of Multnomah Falls along the Historic Columbia River Highway. There is a small parking area and some parking along the road as well. You can actually see the waterfall from the road and parking area, but if you take the short hike (.25 miles) up the trail you can get closer for a better view.
Once you hike up to the waterfall there is a little bridge that crosses over the creek and it's a good place to take some pictures. While we were at the waterfall there were a couple people climbing around and checking out the lower part of the falls.
This is a good waterfall for people to check out if you have a tight time schedule. It's worth seeing because of the beautiful greenery that surrounds the falls.
If you have the time, take the trail up to the bridge. Better yet, park here, take the trail up to the bridge and keep going east to come down in Multnommah Falls from the top. There's a plethora of falls in the trails in the woods, all just waiting for you to experience them!
