“a popular swimming spot for over 50 years”
Dabney State Park offers 138 acres of active and passive recreation on the outskirts of the Portland metropolitan area, and has been a popular swimming and picnic spot for over 50 years. Activities include fishing, boating, rafting, tubing, sun-tanning on the beach, picnicking, bird watching, and nature walks. Bicyclists frequently begin or end their trips on the Historic Columbia River Highway at Dabney. Fishermen like the deep turns and cobbled bottoms of the Sandy River, going after salmon and steelhead. The main picnic area at Dabney is shaded, has BBQ grills, and located near the beach. The picnic and beach areas are extremely popular in the summer months. Other picnic tables and grills are located throughout the park. The park has one reserve able picnic shelter, with electricity, to accommodate events up to 50 people. The disc golf course at Dabney is popular year-round, and remains one of the most technical and challenging courses in the Northwest. No pets are permitted in the park which is enforced. Alcohol is allowed in the park, but not below the Stark Street Bridge.
