“Putting Oregon's pioneers to rest”
The cemetery started prior to 1855. Land was officially deeded on Apr 26, 1876, for a public burial ground by James Thompson Chitwood and Margaret Chitwood. On Dec 16, 1895, the Damascus Cemetery Association of Damascus, Oregon, was formed. On May 16, 2000, the assumed business name of Damascus Pioneer Cemetery was registered with the Oregon Secretary of State. Visitors to this cemetery have reported unexplained sounds and shadows, and ghostly images have shown up in their photographs.
