“3rd generation Swap Tours”
Louisiana Swamp Tours are a third-generation tradition in the Couret family. First, let me introduce myself. My name is Ernest Couret, Jr., born and raised in the Lafayette and Henderson area. My grandfather started a hunting guide service in the Atchafalaya Basin in 1890, and continued this service until 1925. This was before the levees were built. My father moved from Lafayette to Henderson in May of 1959 and started a hunting and fishing guide service on Henderson Lake and the Atchafalaya River out of Butte La Rose. My brothers, Wendell and William and myself helped our father with his guide service. We operated four guide boats out of LeBlanc’s Landing, on Henderson Lake. In April of 1962, my father guided Michael Landon “Little Joe” and Lorne Greene of the hit T.V. series “Bonanza” for seven days on Henderson Lake. The fishing was fantastic! Today, I am carrying on a family tradition that spans three generations of service in the Henderson area. My lifelong experiences on Henderson Lake and the Atchafalaya River enable me to share the history and culture of Cajun country and give you a personalized tour of the largest river basin in North America.
