Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on July 18, 2022Even though this site is right in town the park is nestled in the woods right in between easily accessible nature trails. We camped here during the off season so it was very quite and nice! The campground felt very secluded for late September.
Come prepared with a full fresh water tank though. The sites don't have water hook ups (but do have water stations throughout the park) There is also a dump station towards the exit. Longer rigs might have a bit of a challenge in here too. Our 35' rig couldn't make one of the tight turns in the very back of the park, so had to head down the opposite direction in a one way to get turned around.
For the price you can't go wrong with this park. Only negatives are: sites tend to be very un-level, no water hook ups, and some tight corners. I could care less about not having septic on site when staying less than a week, especially with showers and bathrooms close by.
We had good LTE Coverage with AT&T, but couldn't pick up the campground WiFi even though we where very close to the router at the "comfort station".
I would advise the park Rangers to be mindful of the size of peoples rigs and suggest locations in the park accordingly. But the Ranger that checked us in was VERY friendly. Probably the nicest ranger we have encountered.
Also, CASH ONLY!!!! Thankfully we had $20 on us so we paid for one night, and then paid for the next two after hitting up an ATM in town.

Sites are not very level, but there are lots of sites to choose from. Bathrooms are primitive and not very clean.

we arrived on a Friday afternoon and was surprised of all the sites still available and stayed for 2 nights. Lots of open sites available for all typed of camping (tent, trailer, motor-homes). we stayed in a 35" Motor home, All roads are gravel and narrow but wide enough for us to pass though without any problems. Make sure you have a long hose for water, as the water- is shared by several sites via hose end spliters on the water pumps. Some sites have cable, but the one we were one did not. we did have wonderful wi=fi connection which was free. There are 2 bath houses for the 75 sites.
For a rest in our travels this place was a wonderful hidden gem.

We’ve been here 3 times, including Memorial Day weekend and there are always spots available. It’s quiet and shaded which we like. This is a city park so you can hear some noise from the road and occasionally a train in the distance. For us, this place is just so convenient for a quick camping trip. The sites all have electric, but not all have water. Water hookups are located sporadically through the campground. There are a lot of hiking trails, but they are poorly marked. The marsh area and the pine forest are easy enough, but we’ve gotten turned around in the trails right off the campground and looking for the cave. The map was not up to date either. There is a playground and creek by the big picnic shelters. Rangers are not that helpful, but friendly. An ice cream truck drives through everyday in the summer too. Overall we are very pleased with this little campground for a quick, family getaway.

Nice night of camping at Sugar Hollow. A couple of areas with what looked like full time campers. Quiet, no problems. Electricity at every site. Picnic table and fire ring. Home Depot down the street had no firewood. Very close to lots of stores including a Walmart. Just keep following the signs for camping. Gate is closed at 9pm, although it is just clipped together and you can come and go as you wish. Connected to a large park for hiking or dog walking. Super nice Camp Host.

This is a city park that does not take online reservations. We pulled up to the ranger station and paid $20 when we got there. The roads to the sites are very narrow despite being two way roads.
We found one of the better sites even though it was not very level. There's not much to do there, but my biggest complaint was that the bathrooms were tiny and dirty.

We stayed here on our way to Alabama. This seems to be a quiet city campground during the weekdays. We had several spots from which to choose. We chose site 12 which was close to one of the two bathhouses. Our site was relatively flat with minor sloping for our teardrop camper. The picnic table, fire ring and grill were situated on a slight hill at our site. The bathrooms were decent..old and dated and not sparkling clean, but very acceptable. The shower was nice and hot. There are only two toilets and one shower stall in the bathhouse. It was only about a mile from the highway and very easy to find.

We stopped in Bristol, Va for one night, a Saturday. They don't take reservations, but there was no problem getting a site. There were few people in the park. When you first come into Bristol, you do wonder what you are in for, but Sugar Hollow Campground is an oasis in the city. There is electricity at every site, and a dump station on the way out, but. not every site has water. We chose a site with water, but spent an hour trying to get level and finally gave up. Most everyone we saw had lots of blocking though there were a few sites that seemed they might have been easier to get level. It offers beautiful camp roads to walk, trails to walk, and is very quiet. We would stay again and be more choosey about the site we picked.

Great campground for a good price of $20. Some of the sites share a water connection, but there were so few campers that we had our choice many good sites without neighbors close by. The dump station was a little tight to pull thru with our 30ft trailer, but no major problems. The area is heavily wooded with several hiking trails, which is exactly the way we like it.

This campsite was quite nice for $20. It’s heavily wooded, so shady and quiet. We saw lots of deer. They don’t take reservations but on a Saturday night in July, there were only about 10 campers on 50 sites. Each site has electricity and water (connection is out on the edge of the road) is shared between several sites so easy to have a water hookup if your hose is long enough. The loop road is quite narrow and you need to be brave to make it with a big 5th wheel of class A. I’d say this park is more appropriate for small-mid sized campers. Sites 21 and 26 are pull through a. The rest are back in and with a narrow slot and road, you need pretty good backing up skills. With most of the park empty, take a drive around to pick your best spot. Don’t take the first one you see. The bathrooms are totally adequate although not fancy. It’s a city park. They have a dump on the way out of the campground. There is cell service on the front half, none on the back half. This park is lovely and a bargain for $20.
