“The forgotten world beneath”

For many years, the cavern lay in silence broken only by the sound of the water, the animals that called it home, and the occasional human who made their way into it. It was home to many wild animals, used by local people as a home, celebrated by the Native Americans as a place to hold special meetings, a weekend hangout for local kids, and had many other varied uses down through the years. In 1991, it was opened to the public as a show cave for the first time in its' long and varied history. Since that time, the caverns have had many visitors through its magnificent chambers. It is a bat sanctuary for the endangered gray bats, as well as home to 6 other species, and is a testament to the beauty and glory that God has created not only in the world above, but also in the world underneath that many have forgotten exists. Come visit with us and take a timeless stroll through the ever-changing caverns. Enjoy a picnic at our picnic area or camp in the campground. For the more adventurous, sign up for an Explorer Tour or Wild Tour and do some crawling around in the undeveloped areas of the cavern. No matter whether you spend a couple of hours or a few days, you're sure to see beauty that is beyond compare.

This was such a great addition to our youth trip! Last minute plans turned to an amazing day. :) Our tour guide Stephanie was so cool! and our youth kids loved her. She kept up with all of their questions and still had all kinds of tips and facts. Definitely will stop here next year!! Extra bonus was the adorable gift shop. It was so nice to find a gift shop that was affordable!

It was a great stop on our trip and worth the time. The volunteer guide was knowledgeable, but hard to hear and he often started before the whole group was there. In tight spots he'd explain or point out something and move on. If you weren't able to fit in with him, you missed what was so cool. Overall though, it was a really neat experience and fun hour detour for the regular tour. My 6 year old had a great time and so did we.

We had a GREAT time here. I was totally amazed by how big the caverns were. So unexpected as it's in the middle of a rural "neighborhood". We stopped on our way to Gatlinburg and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the tour. Our 14 month old had a good time too running through "parts" of the cavern. Not strenuous at all. Highly recommended!

Stopped here on our way to New York with 3 kids (ages 8,6, and 3). It was really very enjoyable and quaint. There was nothing over the top and that was ok by us. The caves were very interesting and tour guide was very nice and informative. I would highly recommend as a rest stop slightly off the beaten path.
