“World's largest cast iron statue”
Vulcan, Birmingham Alabamas colossal statue is the worlds largest cast iron statue and considered one of the most memorable works of civic art in the United States. Designed by Italian artist Giuseppe Moretti and cast from local iron in 1904, it has overlooked the urban landscape of Alabamas largest city since the 1930s.
I was driving through and decided to stop in. Didn't go up to the lookout, because I didn't want to pay haha. But nice views of Birmingham, and Vulcan has a nice butt. 😂
Great views of birmingham - a must see
The Vulcan statue is the centerpiece of a very nice part of the great overlook of Birmingham City.
Amazing views of the city and the museum is very nice. Worth the visit
I concur about the butt. Even if you don't pay to go up there are nice views of the city from the platform. You have to pay for a small museum too.
Neat to learn the history and see how the statue was made. The lookout is nice but if you don't like heights be warned. The lookout is a metal grate walkway which you can see through.
There's a small museum on site that offers loads of historical information. The view from the statue is the best in Birmingham.
Great part of world!!
I thought it was just ok. I didn't pay the $6 to ride the elevator up. I only walked around the grounds. Nice for a picnic area. I honestly felt like it wasn't worth the detour from my route.
