“First rate camping”
With beautiful mountain vistas, and the largest body of water in the Alpine district, this campground is ideal for relaxed camping. The site is divided: half for tent only camping, half for RVs. Fishing is best right after the thaw in the spring.

Stayed here for one night on and unannounced trip passing through. No problem for big rigs and great Verizon service. Best utilize during the summer if you are looking for warm weather.

There are 40 sites available in the main loop and reservations can be made online for some sites during peak season (May 15 - Sept 15). The remaining sites are first-come, first-served and after Sept 15 all sites are first-come, first-served. There are vault toilets and drinking water and although there are no electric campsites, there is decent solar as the trees are not dense so most sites have light to moderate shade. Campsites have a picnic table and a fire pit with grill (some picnic tables were in need of repair). Many sites are not level. Verizon had 3-4 bars of service in August of 2019.
Favorite campsites:
- 27 - Nice site but the picnic table was in need of repair. Lake view, good spacing, close to water, moderate shade, back in.
- 22 - Picnic table in need of repair and grill grate was small. Lake view, decent spacing, close to bathrooms, moderate shade, back in.
- 25 - Lake view, good spacing, very close to bathrooms, light shade, pull though.
- 16 - This was the site I stayed in and I would stay here again. Close to bathrooms, moderate shade, back in.

So quiet and peaceful. Easy walk to the lake. A herd of elk strolled through our campsite at dawn. We saw a deer going to the lake for a drink in the evening. Blue herons hanging out and nesting by the lake. Fantastic birdwatching. Incredible stargazing. Abundant finds for rockhounds. Lake stocked with rainbow trout. Boat launch and plenty of shore spots to launch a kayak. People seem to be very respectful of this area. There were a few other campers, but everyone was so quiet. The campground is huge, so it was almost like we had it all to ourselves.
Site 10 was level and had a view of the lake. There was a fire pit with grill and a picnic table that was a little raggedy, but we always use our chairs, so it didn’t bother us.
We’re self contained, so the “down sides” didn’t really impact us. There are pit toilets, some were closed. There are spigots, but the water isn’t running. The dumpster near the front needed emptying.
Strong Verizon service. This place was amazing. We’d definitely stay here again.

I am here prior to May 15 when reservations and camp fees will start. The campground has large well spaced sites. Leveling required. Seems like about half of them are pull through. It’s first come first served now and very quiet. There are main trails to the lake from each of the two loops. Vault toilets were stocked with TP and clean. the trash receptacle is absolutely full. Looks like they are clearing some trees and leaving behind nice bundles of fire wood. Safe, beautiful and quiet.

Very well spaced out & level sites, many with view of lake and easy jaunt down to lake. Never crowded. Clean restrooms and water. Super quiet and lake itself separates highway and camp area.

Our price reflect sour NPS lifetime pass (50%). Although I'd be happy paying full. This campground is spread-out overlooking the lake. Lots of nice ponderosa pines although looks like they are in the process of thinning for possible fire management. The host, Judy was awesome! She said any dead wood, on the ground is available. Never had this happen before. Since fire pits were well placed & in metal rings, we had a campfire which we stopped doing several years ago because of the risk. Felt safe here plus rain came in the 2nd day. Very clean pit toilets throughout. Water is available as well. No dumb but we found an RV park in Alpine that worked. Nightly elk bugling as well as a couple packs of coyotes. None in the campsite but they were down by the lake. Plenty of stars from our campsite & although it was remote, the road noise could be annoying at times. Not too bad, just not totally quiet. We look forward to returning.

I’ve lived my whole life in AZ and never explored this portion - I’m so glad I did! This campground was perfect - very well spaced spots that were well maintained. Pit toilets were kept clean as well and the hosts were very friendly and professional. There was a trail down to the lake directly out of spot 11, but lots of other ways to walk down to the lake so nobody was walking through our site. We were easily able to back in our small trailers (~16 foot and small teardrop) in each of these campsites very easily with the position of the spot with the road. There are some great rocks to be found nearby so keep an eye out for the Luna Blue Agates and crystals in and around the campground!

Luna Lake is a beautiful campground within in walking distance of a great trout lake. I highly recommend it but it does need some TLC.

Nice campground with clean pit toilets and water stations. But, a lot of the campsites are on an incline. I could not get level on site 13, but thankfully the camp host were helpful and I was able to switch to an open first come first serve site. I was only able to get 3G signal on AT&T so I could not create a hotspot and local network, which needs 4G signal. So, I could only access my streaming services on my phone, but luckily I had an HDMI adapter so I could plug my phone directly to my TV.
