Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on July 08, 2023Lake Martin is beautiful. The campsites at Wind Creek are not. They are on top of each other, there clearly is no limit to the number of trucks/boats you can have at each site, and the concept of quiet hours is lost on these people. On Saturdays they blast a gospel concert across the park whether you want to listen or not. Overall, we felt as if we were in the infield of a nascar event complete with the speeding trucks and screaming drunken locals. So sad as this lake is really pretty, but the campground is brutal.

I couldnt disagree with the last reviewer more. This state park boasts being one of the biggest state park campgrounds in the country. The mature trees make it feel very rustic. Park is large which makes a great place to walk or bike. Sand beach for Lake Martin. We stayed in October and the park was gearing up for two weekend of Halloween activities.
Our rig is 40ft and we tow with a semi truck. The access roads were fine, but backing into the sites can be tricky. We definately will be coming back here!

We visited this in late May 2018. Our loop was almost empty, and we could pick a spot. You can have anything you want - water, electric, and sewer at site for some.
Sites are close - but our loop is nearly empty.
There are other loops that are quite occupied- with full hookups, sewer and concrete pads- looks like folks are staying awhile.
Wonderful woods - great shade. There is a marina and camp store, laundry, boat rental.
We travel with a tiny teardrop trailer so we can fit any location, I see larger 5th wheelers here too.
Bath and shower facilities in each loop were very bright and clean.
Archery and Zip lines are among the offerings.
This place is remote, you won't hear any highways or trucks at all.

The main complaint I have are the trails aren't as clearly marked as one would like. The only camping available with horses is the overflow, although hookups and water is provided it would be nice to be closer to the water.

We rolled in here on a weekday during the off season. We enjoyed the scenery on lake and saw lots of birds. However, this park has the claim to fame of being the largest government-run campground in the nation, with over 550 site. I'd recommend avoiding peak times unless you want to deal with a mad house! The site vary significantly in size and quality, so be sure to choose wisely, and I'd you like a view, pay more for the lake front spots. There appear to be many activities in the summer, including a zip line, boat rental, hiking, and swimming.

We have one of the non premium sites on the lake. It is almost level paved. The sites are a little close but not to bad. The bathrooms and showers were very clean and were air conditioned which is nice when you get out of your shower. Nice lake if you are here for water sports or fishing

We really enjoyed our stay at Wind Creek State Park. One thing that is evident about this park is that it is super kid friendly. There's a ton of stuff to do... put put golf, archery ranges, playgrounds, ziplines and obviously fishing and lake activities. There was also an icecream truck that circled around every afternoon. Tis campground is HUGE. hundreds of sites, so it can get quite busy, especially on the weekends. Lake front sites require a 7 night minimum. And during the week, it was mostly quiet and filled up Friday evening.
Some sights have full hook ups. Our site, B116 was a lake front site with just electricity and water. We got a slight discount for a veterans rate. Normally this site is $29 a night but we got it for $24. The bath houses are nice, clean and have laundry facilities.
he premium sites were rather large. Ours, however, was inches away from our neighbors with the slides out. Once again, during the week, it was fine since there were few people there. But Friday and Saturday night it was like a party and folks hollering inches away from where you are sleeping...but that is campground life. Just don't expect to be secluded if not getting a premium site. The booking process was easy online and there are plenty of sites large enough to accommodate big rigs.
Most importantly, the cell phone service here was excellent. We worked with our T-Mobile/Sprint boosted router and had extremely fast internet. I was able to host several video conference calls with no issue whatsoever. I also have Verizon on my phone and had full LTE bars.
There were a few things to do in the area, but not a ton if you're not there for the lake. We went hiking to an old fire tower on the other side of the lake and it offered incredible views.

Spacious site overlooking the creek area. They also have water front sites, but they were all booked when we planned our stay. If you like to hike they have a couple of trails. We seemed to be the only ones hiking, there were a few people on horseback on the trail. Most people had boats or jet skis to enjoy the lake. There did not seem to be a limit on vehicles/boats and people each site could have. Some nights were noisier than others, but were usually quiet by midnight. The campground was clean, but the bathhouse and laundry facility could use a good cleaning. The per night fee is an average of our total cost. Alexander City has a 10% sales tax and they tax everything. The park has a 4% lodging fee and a 4% resort fee.
