Right off of I-70, like maybe a quarter mile from exit->entrance, so convenience factor was pretty awesome. Front office very helpful/accommodating/organized, so check-in no issues.
Someone was at our assigned site, which was odd because park was pretty empty, but we just grabbed another and went on with it. Sites have enough space between, seems like most people were just passing through for a night. Pool seemed to be dug up/unusable and playground not to be found, again just passing through so not the end of the world. Nearby horse farm seemed to bring TONS of black flies, just a heads up.
Bathrooms are covered head-toe in snarky posters about how to properly use the bathroom, but it clearly wasn't cleaned regularly - dirty towels in the bathroom stalls, dirty sinks, empty paper towel dispenser, etc (all seen twice, both upon check-in the evening and then the following afternoon) - so that was kind of ironic.
No reliable wifi to speak of, but we had Starlink so not an issue with us. For the price, no issues and happy to stay again.

This is our second time staying in this park as we drove across Kansas. The sites are mostly gravel with a few all grass. The large pull thru sites for bigger Motorhomes are level, very wide and set to the side of the other sites. All sites are rather wide and very level. The office makes pizza and will deliver to your unit. They also have a pub on site. There is a family style restaurant right next door. There is no smoking allowed in the park anywhere except inside your unit or car. The park does have WiFi but it was slow. This is mostly an overnight stop park. The park was full by the evening and emptied in the morning.

We usually head to a campground every few days to recharge our batteries, have a nice shower, and relax. This was NOT the place to do it.
Office staff EXTREMELY rude. Figured out that it’s a husband and wife who run the whole thing with seemingly NO help.
When we first arrived the woman ran up to our rig telling us we were rude because we had “parked our rig the wrong direction”. (We parked our rig in accordance with our hook ups... oops? We moved right away but it was a really bad start to the night)
About an hour later I decided to take a shower. They have shower houses and list that as an amenity on their website. However the shower doors are locked. So I called the office and said “hi, I’m camping here tonight, wondering what the code is for the shower”
The same woman said to me : “everyone has full hook ups here, you don’t need the shower.”
I was BLOWN away. So what? We payed $44 to stay here and you advertise showers!
They also advertise hot tubs (which didn’t have water in them) and WiFi (WiFi doesn’t work). They also have a pub onsite which is garbage. I watched the “cooks” in the back heat up pre-packaged name brand food and serve it on a plate. Got a drink and opted for food from the gas station. Same stuff but $6 cheaper.
I am angry we gave these people our money and we will never be back.
*final note, they are near a cow pasture or something and at night the wind blows the manure smell directly to the campground. Very, very gross.*

Arrived after hours- greeted with notes and signs to make sure to pay $35 cash in the envelope before going to the site or else they will charge additional $5 to track you down. That didn’t set the right tone. Also there is a entrance gate they close at night but I don’t know what time - maybe it’s ten as that matches their quiet hours (10pm-9am). Otherwise, clean grounds with basic set ups. Supposedly has WiFi but was never able to connect. Didn’t have a chance to check out the hot tub/laundry which was located in a large converted barn that was also the office. They do offer propane fill but the owner was not available to fill. Access right off highway, across from a gas station with food and near two restaurants which are both walkable. It does get windy.

Arguably, High Plains is no great campground. Ascetically, it's nothing to look at, the individual sites are in need of work, the buildings need paint and I'm guessing the owners, a man and wife team are tired of running an RV park and dealing with travelers who somehow want more than they are willing to provide them. But maybe they're just north easterners who wonder how the hell they ended up in Oakley, Kansas. Seemed like a good idea at the time maybe.
Regardless, we had an okay time spending a night there. It was relatively quiet, considering its location near I-70. The wind was gusting at around 25 MPH, but the campground is surrounded by nice cedars making for a nice wind break. We slept well.
We ate on site at Captain Jack's Pub. Our drinks were good and inexpensive. The pub itself is just interesting enough and the food just good enough. The menu has separate pages with color copies of photos of the food. I don't know about that. They tout the restaurant as having the best food in northern Kansas. I don't know about that either. I can only say, if the food is the best in that part of Kansas, Kansas is in need of assistance.
Before we settled in, we visited the Buffalo Bill Visitor Center, a privately owned facility with a great piece of sculpture out front. Kirstin, the person who runs things at the center, is very personable and helpful. We also visited downtown Oakley which seemed like a pretty nice small town.
High Plains is one of those campgrounds you might frequent again, but only if nothing else is available or you've had a debilitating head injury causing faulty reasoning. And one other thing, instructions mention if you have a shower, you should use it and not theirs. We found this a novel approach, just a bit humorous and definitely just shy of not too smart for a place charging 40 dollars US for a night's stay.

Pictures show a nice green park, it’s brown and full of horrible stickers that are terrible for animals. When I asked where the restrooms were, the lady said, ‘what, you don’t have a bathroom in your rig?’ Um, seriously? The restrooms were falling apart and dirty. They had us move sites when we first got there. They came out with their hands up and waving asking us to move because the 6 sites they had open in the back (that were all empty) were all being held Incase motor homes came in. It was 7:30pm on a Thursday. The WiFi doesn’t work. They told us 100 times to go eat dinner in the Pub. We did so, it was a mediocre at best meal that was so overpriced we were baffled. If I order a $34 filet minon, I would anticipate a dinner salad. Nope, it was $4 extra and was wilty lettuce with some tomatoes and a few red onions. They want to be a high scale restaurant but have paper napkins and a run down facility with zero ambiance. The gentleman owner was very friendly, but the woman was abrasive, rude, unaccommodating and extremely cold! Definitely won’t be back!
