“one spectacular landscape”

Singletree Campground is located on the east side of Boulder Mountain in central Utah. Visitors enjoy hiking and sightseeing in this beautiful area. The campground is situated at an elevation of 8,200 feet in a scenic ponderosa pine and aspen forest. Summer wildflowers are abundant and autumn leaves put on a spectacular show. Beautiful open vistas of Capitol Reef National Park and the Henry Mountains can be viewed from within the campground. A one-mile hiking trail begins within the campground, leading to Singletree Falls. The trail follows Singletree Creek and offers sweeping views of the red rock desert landscape below.  Horseshoe pits and a volleyball court are located near the group sites, offering additional activities.

We didn't have high hopes when we pulled in to Singletree, but it was getting dark and we were in unfamiliar territory. However, we were delighted to find few people in this well-laid out park with huge, level, packed-gravel pads. We picked out a private spot on the far side of the looped road and went to check in. Then we realized it had closed for the season, so there was no fee! The water hydrants were still on, the bathrooms perfectly clean and well-stocked and there were even flush toilets. Can you believe that? Even when it's open, the nightly fee is only $10.

You can also take a short (.5 miles) hike to Single Tree Falls from the trailhead just inside the campground entrance. Extend your hike by scrambling up the rock terraces near by or follow an old rocky road north and south.

While we had no cell phone service in the campground, we got a weak signal on our hike. You'll get a very strong signal by driving just a few miles further south on Highway 12.

Some of the sites at the rear of the campground are right along the rim, overlooking the Capitol Reef National Park. They're some of the largest sites we've seen, nestled under the Ponderosa pines.

It's at 8500 feet elevation and there are bear warnings, but we had no trouble with critters.

On our way the next day, we checked out Oak Creek Campground further up the road but it was very cramped, sited too close to the road and only suitable for tents. Oddly enough, it was still open and had it's camp host still on duty. No campers though!

UPDATE! We came back over Boulder Mountain a week later (October 16) intending to spend another night at Singletree before completing our drive to Moab and found that the water was turned off and all the restrooms padlocked, which is understandable considering the late date at this high elevation campground. Oddly enough, the campground was half full and no one seemed to mind. Nevertheless, we opted to boondock a mile or two south along Hwy12 at milepost 110. Awesome views!!!

Just coming off the scorching heat of the desert (end July) on Scenic Byway 12, and climbing in the green mountains with thunderstorms rolling, we were delighted to arrive in this beautiful, relaxed campground.
Even though we had booked a site in advance the nice hosts directed us towards one of the best sites available with no neighbours on both sides! Firepit + separate convenient high grill. Plenty of room behind and sideways for kids to explore & play. Great walk to the Falls. Quiet mix of regulars, large groups and 1-nighters. We loved it.

Nice campground. I have never seen flush toilets in a Forest Service Campground before. Campsites and restrooms were clean. Friendly host who directed me to a site with a great view. Fairly close to Torrey, UT and Capitol Reef to visit and yet camp up where it's cool and shady.

Ponderosa pines, good sites, flush toilets--what else could be asked for? About half the sites can be reserved, others are first come.

Verizon service was 0 to 2 bars. Mostly 0.

$6 fee for seniors.

We arrived in mid-May to a hail storm but after the weather cleared it was a perfect 65 degrees. Setup camp on the lower number sites to hear the creek babbling. There is also a trail beyond the creek that leads to a gate and beautiful mountain views on the other side of the forest. It was a pleasant drive to Capitol reef for more spectacular views and hiking. We visited all the Utah parks and this was our favorite area. If you’re headed to Bryce, HWY 12 won’t disappoint.

This campground is in the middle of the forest amidst rolling hills and pine trees. There is a creek that runs nearby and a trail that can be followed to a waterfall.
The sites are gravel and are fairly level. Some sites are close to the next one. Our site had the table and fire ring on the backside of our trailer and we like to sit outside our door.
The host was very pleasant.
There aren’t any signs indicating the campground is there before the turn.

Got here about 3 PM and had no trouble finding a site. Sites 7-21 were first come/first served and we had several sites to choose from. Publications say 25 ft. Maximum but I have a 24ft unit towing a 10 ft cargo trailer and had no problem backing into a site. There was a 32 ft unit with a toad that had plenty of room. Clean sites, restrooms and the quiet makes this a campground to stay at.

The fee is $12/night, but with the Interagency National Park Annual Pass you get half off, so we only paid $6/night. We did not have a reservation. When we arrived about half of the sites were reserved and half were 1st come, 1st serve. You’ll pay the camp host. The sites are fairly spaced out. Pretty wooded area. Some shaded sites and some full sun. Each site has a gravel/asphalt pad (back-in) and a picnic table, fire pit, & grill. There are multiple potable water spouts close by. It has a trash bin, RV dump station, and very clean flushable toilets (no sinks or showers in the restrooms). You can run a generator from 6am to 10pm, but it was cool at night so we didn’t need the a/c anyway. Very quiet place. I had spotty cell service (T-mobile) and only had one bar in certain parts of the campground. Actually, cell service is spotty throughout the Capital Reef area. You can get service in the town of Torrey. The closest gas stations, grocery, etc. is in Torrey as well (about 20 minutes from the campground). Overall, this was an awesome place to stay.

Very nice spot. Not far from Capitol Reef. Lots of space between sites. Clean flush toilets. Dump and fill station in the campgrounds. Cell service varied depending on time of day and location in the campground. Be careful on the very short hike to the Singletree falls. Lots of little pebbles that turn into marbles. My husband fractured his fibula and another lady broke her leg the day before my husband did.

The campground is right off State Road 12, well-marked and easy to find.

We did not have reservations, and got there about 2 pm on a Thursday in mid-May. It took a while to find a campground host, as she has lots of responsibilities. People were leaving notes, and there was a sign saying that sites 7 through 21 were available if unoccupied, so we found a site and left a note. We got the last site (21), and quite a few people who came later were turned away. I take from that this is a pretty busy place, and it's understandable because it's such a great spot.

The sites were spacious and paved, so no trouble when it started to rain. There are flush toilets (pretty rare), though no showers. The place was a mix of tenters and small RVs, and was very quiet. Pines and fir trees all around, so cool and pleasant.

Paid $10 with Senior Pass, but price is $20.
