Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort

We stayed at spot 335A. It was near all the RVs. I had picked this spot thinking it was super close to the Lake. It's not. There is no view or anything. None of the camping seems to have any view of the lake. We also picked it because it's close to the bathroom.

The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. They have a paper on the wall they sign when cleaned. There was a 3-4 day gap, often. It showed. The showers.... I didn't dare. It smelled so terrible of mildew, and looked like you would catch something being in the area.

There is SO much trash all over the property. Our campground was full of trash and dirty diapers. I couldn't help myself, I started picking it up all around us. I'm talking dirty diapers, paper, bottles. I didn't once see anyone cleaning anywhere, ever. You sure see them driving around all the time, not doing much. Weird.

When we checked in, we were given a code to the bathroom. It was wrong. We had to hunt someone down to get it, who told us they're always changing it, and nobody ever knows the right code. Um... Okay....

We tried eating at the pizza/bar place. The food is terrible. Lol. I mean, frozen food, that they microwaved kind of terrible.

We originally booked here because of the fun zone in the water at the beach. I guess it closed early, a few weeks before our arrival. They "conveniently" didn't email to notify us of this until 3 days prior to our arrival. Even more convenient, they have a seven day cancellation. I see what they did there.

The only good experience we had, was renting a patio boat for a couple of hours. That was fun, and we enjoyed it. It was just two of us, and not many people on the water.

I don't think I would ever return here. I can't say it was a great experience.

I can't really put my finger on it but this place had a strange vibe to me. Even with the nice size sites and being close to the water, I wasn't quite content here.

The facilities are run down. There was no soap in the bathrooms. I have been in nicer bathrooms in a BART station in Oakland. The property is aging overall. I got the feeling that this place is about 30 years past its heyday.

When we are in the area next time I will look for another option.

I have to write a review to give an alternative view to the weird vibe opinion. We have stayed here many times over the last 20 years, and it is a bit old now, but the sites are large, the forest beautiful, and the lake always a perfect temperature. When you're in the lake, you have a totally unobstructed view of Mt Shasta, and it's gorgeous.

We come every summer. We love that they have full hookup sites that aren't crammed together.

The only downside is trash managment. It used to be really good but a lot of the cans were overflowing this year.

Lake Siskiyou Resort is just a short 4.5 miles from Mt. Shasta City right on Interstate 5 in Northernmost California. The campground and amenities were developed quite some years ago so some areas are below standard.... but with that said it is a nice camping experience if you like to be outdoors. There are full hookups, partial hookups (water, electric) and tent spaces. There are over 200 spaces. It is a very popular camping spot in the summers so it can be crowded and noisy with lots of kids. The RV spots close to the water are often most desired, but are also the most crowded and sometimes noisy, there are great spots "up the hill" from the camp store that have a little more privacy depending on the spot you choose or are assigned. We have camped here numerous times throughout the years.

What to do there? Great easy hike, a trail completely goes around the lake, beautiful! Swimming area, fishing, boating and kayaking, a small marina with rentals, a camp store with the usual souvenirs and a very nice ice cream concession where you can make sundaes! There is a small restaurant that has a beer/wine bar and pretty good food at decent prices. There is a outdoor theater where they show movies in the summer and a snack bar at the swimming area. Nearby is the Sisson Museum and a fun fish hatchery where you can buy a handful of food and feed the little fish! A drive past the campground goes up to a box canyon that is a fun drive, but not with a trailer or motorhome... the road gets a bit sketchy before long. But even though one may think the road doesn't go through, it does and goes all the way to the top of a mountain that intersects with the Pacific Coast Trail. There is also a free campground (Gumboot Lake) that is up the road quite a ways, but not easy to always find, signage is mostly absent.

Other reviews have said they stayed free.... but don't confuse that with the actual campground where there are hookups and amenities. Across the lake on the East side is a area where folks often camp for free, but it is totally boon-docking. If you have a kayak or small boat you can cross the lake to the campground area. If you stay across the lake and drive over to the "resort" there is a daily entrance fee of something like $1 per person.

The only downsides to this campground is that it is often quite busy so you won't be getting a wilderness experience, and many of the facilities need upgrading, especially the restrooms and showers, at the beginning of the season they are in pretty good shape, but they have very heavy use in the summer so many people choose to use the restrooms in their own RV's if they have them.

The access is easy except, there is one small sign (easy to miss sometimes) that indicate where the entrance is and it comes as a bit of a surprise if you haven't been there before, so watch your GPS or map so you don't have to try to turn around on a two lane road to go back and find the entrance. Not super easy to find in the dark if you aren't familiar with the area.

With all that said, even at the busy times we enjoy the beautiful lake and one can always find a quiet place to relax as long as you head away from the crowds.

This place is curious. I agree that there was a weird vibe. maybe if we didn’t have the worst site in the world (well, in this park anyway) it would have been better. I wish I’d have asked for a different site or at least for other options. It was just Way Too Crowded and public where we were (site 338... don’t do it!!). Restrooms/showers near this crammed rv area needed some care. I checked out other ones further away, and they were better.

Getting there was fine. The sign could have been tricky if it was dark out, but it was no problem. It’s in a great location; the lake is lovely. We had no problem getting our boards to the water. The staff were not friendly but not “mean” either.

It’s a great location with tons of hiking and beautiful landscape. Castle lake was close by and super beautiful!’

We liked the area, but we wouldn’t stay here again unless there were no other options.

I can't speak to the cabin rentals or the tent experience, but staying in an RV was fantastic. Stayed over Memorial Weekend after they reopened and it was a wonderful getaway. I found the RV full hookup sites to be adequately spaced and functional. The draw here is the beach and the views. Spectacular! $44 gets you full hookups and "cable," but don't plan on watching much. There were 12 channels of which maybe 5 were watchable if you are into 1980's TV reception. No points deducted for the crappy cable because what are you doing inside watching TV anyway?! They also need to handle their trash better and have someone empty the bins more often. Looking forward to returning, unfortunately they are booked solid for the 4th. If anyone there reads this and wants to fit me in for say the 1st through the 5th of July. Please do!

We were passing through on our way north on I-5. We made a tent camping reservation for one night, wanting to be close to Lake Siskiyou so we could take a dip in the morning. At the last minute, some good friends ended up being able to join us for the night in their Sprinter van. The good: The staff was able to add our friends to our reservation when I checked in, and they were helpful and friendly about it. The bad: Every extra vehicle and person (beyond the base rate for 2 adults) costs extra, so including fees and taxes, our very basic tent camping site ended up costing a whopping $60 for two vehicles, four adults, and two kids 3 and under. Wowza.

The campground is huuuuge and accommodates a ton of large groups and all kinds of rigs, so it was PARTY CENTRAL while we were here in mid-July. Quiet hours are 0% enforced, so we definitely heard drunken renditions of “Happy Birthday” + howling that traveled from campsite to campsite (think wave-style, like at a baseball game) + amplified music from two campsites over (too bad if you don’t like their playlist) until well past midnight. Probably fine if you have earplugs or are in the mood. Sucked while we were in a tent with a 3-year-old. But also, it was kind of our bad to look for some sleep at a lakeside “camp resort” instead of some nice remote National Forest land.

Upshot: You can pay a daytime entrance fee for access to the campground’s store/beach/etc (the beach access was awesome), but I’d look for somewhere cheaper and quieter to camp next time.

This is were we camped back in the early 2000’s. Somethings have changed and others not. The general store and snack stand are so much better. The beach was sectioned off and people were very respectful of COVID-19 precautions. I have a rooftop tent and trailer so I did not use the RV sections the larger of the was insane with so many people. I would not use that section. Not a tree to be found in that general arena.
We up at the upper end of the tent area. Lots of privacy. The place has stayed clean other than the bathrooms on Saturday. No one cleaned or picked up trash.
Kids had a blast in the splash Zone which was new to us. Daughter trying the paddle boards which apparently replaced the paddle boats we used to rent. Can’t beat the price. No daytime use during COVID. There were enough people camping to keep the place busy

We would only revisit if they train their staff & update their summer campfire policy.

This is a lovely location. We were 100% dismayed by how we were treated upon arrival. We have a class C RV. Thus, we called during our on-line booking to assure (To double check) that we could book a 10 person campsite (+) they would allow & accommodate our 27 ft RV.

At that time five (10) person camp sites were available via the web. The young woman that answered the phone said it was no problem & told us to reserve site #6 as planned. We did & just for caution added in notes with our vehicle type & details. Essentially we requested that if site #6 was not going to work that we get another one of the five (10) person camp sites that was semi level.

We received our booking confirmation that day & a couple of additional emails the week prior to our arrival- confirming our reservation with Covid protocols. Confirmation email = Your Campspot Reservation Confirmation (do-not-reply@campspot.com) Aug 16, 2020, 3:45 PM

We arrived at 5:30PM on August 28th & were greeted that they had us in site #6 as planned. YAY! But, oh wait, no...
Ridiculous questions & comments ensued:
1. But we can’t accommodate a 27ft RV there as we would overhang into the camping area ( you mean the place where the tent would go & we don’t need one?)
2. No, the road. (But we will back in & our tail can potentially hang over the camping area)
3. Does it say we can accommodate a 27 ft RV on our website? (O-M-G)
4. You should have called us to ask (Yes, and we did!)
5. When I asked if they read our notes the young man’s response was “Oh, we don’t read the notes until the day you arrive.” (I had to calmly ask “Why? That does not make sense...”)
6. Did you book on our site / another site. I am not sure this is our confirmation (I showed our confirmation email from them & he conceded)
7. We are fully booked so let me call my manager (Verna? I think her name was) to see what we can do.

They put us in the RV full hookup section (We thought they were fully booked, per his earlier comment...)

We were placed in a site that was not level & so tight between 4 trees that we had to back in at an angle to get room for our slide out. RVs within 10 feet on either side so social distancing was not REALLY their policy.

Also, despite CA air quality being horrible (CZU & other bay area fires) they fully supported campfires in the park in late August 2020. Our stay was Aug 28th. Many campers (50%-ish) did in fact have campfires. So, under the canopy of big trees was a suffocating fog of campfire smoke for us to breath ALL EVENING LONG. So, we shut ourselves up in the RV & left as soon as quiet hours were over. Regarding campfires...I am not trying to advocate they should not have them at all/ever. Late fall & winter fires when the air quality is better & fire danger lower, Okay- no problem. Maybe they may want to consider a policy to use propane fire pits for campers during a June-August summer stay. You can still roast marshmallows over them too!
