Very cool to visit if you're in the area
The rock is underwhelming, but visiting the town and other attractions make up for it
Amazing history and beautifully detailed mansion. Must see day trip, and give yourself time for the cliff walk after your tour
Best econo I've stayed at. Nice rooms clean and spacious. Best price/value in the area. Breakfast is continental but they do have a waffle maker 😀.
I suggest learning the history before visiting. There are two documentaries (one can be found on youtube "the town that was"). In context walking around the town is erie, sad, and unsettling.
The graffiti highway was fun to walk and is a cool representation of society (including an apparent abundance of 13 year old boys with a penis fetish). It's also the most visible example of the damage from the fire with its twisted and split asphalt.
Most of the plots are overgrown and there is not any sign of the fire which has moved deeper, or further towards Mount Carmel.
Well worth the visit and to see it for yourself. Spent about 3 hours walking the graffiti and visiting the landmarks (google maps satellite view is helpful). There are a couple of abandoned houses still standing (but heavily vandalized) I read warnings of increased police enforcement of no trespassing on the graffiti highway, but did not see any on my visit.
You can drive around the empty streets and park to walk around
I'm not a botanical garden lover, but this place was amazing. The glass sculptures and layout really set it apart from other gardens I've visited. It keeps you wondering what amazing site awaits you around the next corner. Bright and vibrant, it's a treat for the senses. Spent about 2 1/2 hours walking through. Highly recommended for anyone, not just botanical lovers.
Ok place to spend the night. Room was clean but smelled of old smoke (non smoking room). Not much in the area, 4 miles to closest stores and restaurants. Despite it's looks was a good inexpensive place to stay and get a good nights sleep on a long road trip.
Clean and quiet. Stayed two nights tenting. Staff was very welcoming and had a nice store. Sites were well kept and shaded. Bathroom was very clean, and showers were ok (a little small and it took the water a long time to warm up). Bathroom cleaning time is 6-8 am which is not ideal for early risers, but fine if you plan accordingly. Didn't have time to take advantage of the on site pond or entertainment, but facilities looked nice. No WIFI at tent site, only a central hotspot.
This is a cool place to visit as a side trip. Spent about an hour walking through the castle and grounds. Nice picnic area with tables and the garden was lovely.
Amazing experience. There are at least two pull offs which have trails leading to the boat. Brought a cheap rubber raft ($30) to paddle around. Pretty muddy on riverbank. One local man was doing some work and didn't say anything to us, but Quiet and respectful is the way to go. Would be so cool to do at night on a paddle trip down the Ohio!
