Great place to stop as we drive east across the country. Right off the I80. Friendly staff. Wow! Coming from California this was a treat. Green, lots of trees, and best of all, availability on a first come, first serve status! Electric site was perfect as the weather was definitely hot and humid and the AC was a must. Dump station and water fill right there. Site was in last loop next to Lake6 where we could swim. Make sure and take the nature hike. So cool! Would highly recommend.

It’s always difficult when traveling during the summer months in Nevada to find a place that offers some shade. Well this campground did just that. We checked out the two other campgrounds close to the lake. They were tightly squeezed together. We had complete privacy and trees up on Elk Flats. We did try to take a dip in the lake and let our dog swim. Disaster! The mud sucked you in before you could even get to the water. Yucky! The best part of staying here was the hiking trails. We did a lovely 5 mile walk before leaving the next morning. Great way to start a long drive. The Step Toe Trail was great. We saw deer and big horn sheep. The view of Flat Rock Mtn from our campsite was beautiful.

Campground located right off of the highway. Easy access and some traffic noise. Our site was a pull through. Very private and located in loop behind highway. During these Covid times we had looked at 3 other FS campgrounds and everything was reserved. We were so happy to have this gem of a site. Stayed 3 nights and was able to see Custer state park, Badlands and Mt Rushmore. Will come back and most definitely would recommend. Hill city closer drive than Custer for ones needs.

We were told by another Campendium supporter that if driving this route, you need to stop for the night. Thanks AGAIN Campendium for this wonderful night on top of the Monument. We also had the added benefit of seeing the comet Neo Wise. The campsites ate really nothing to brag about. But! The views and being in the Monument are worth every penny. If you are a bike rider, do the loop! Or even just ride part of it. Spend a bit of time driving past the campground to the various pull offs to see the sites. Really a Colorado Treasure. If you have a choice try and reserve campsites on outer loop of B loop. They are just pull offs from the road but the views are worth it.

Hard to get your head around that this is BLM rec site! We were on a mission to stay here. 9 years ago we traveled this lovely road and made a reservation at McKay Resevoir (pre-Campendium). Stopped because it looked so beautiful. We had lunch at the picnic area and drove through the campground. The host was mowing the lawns and couples were playing horseshoes! We swore we would come back one day. And so here we are. It was worth waiting 9 years. And the same host is still here, infact he has been the host for over 20 years!!! Water spigots available to fill your tanks near some of the campsites. Dump station with more portable water and the big bonus was swimming in the Salmon River! Our site was my favorite. Don’t come in on a Friday too late in day.

I would write this same review if the place cost any amount of money! Being FREE was an added benefit! What a place. Read all the reviews about parking in the grassy area but there was a back in site right on the river. We swam. The dog swam. We drank wine and watched as a crazy storm came through. Rain, hail, thunder and lightening! Then the light show afterwards was the cherry on top! Felt like I was on the set of the show, Yellowstone! Not far off the road. My husband was doubting Campendium! Silly guy. Never fails us
