We went to see this and didn't realize that the Historic Wendover Airfield was there (where the Enola Gay flew from to drop the bomb on Hiroshima which ended WWII)...on our return trip home we spent time at the museum which was well worth it. A HUGE part of our country's history was here and we didn't know it was there. So glad we were clued in.

Enjoyed my brief visit here...very brief...long enough to see the monument and take a few photos...cool history story to share with the kids about the determination of immigrants that came to our country. Beautiful part of California.

This is a great tour. It's packed though during the summer with summer camp groups, tourists, etc. But it was worth the time to visit. My kids, 11 and 13 enjoyed it, they liked the free bag of jelly bellys they got on the tour and had fun at the sample bar. Pick up a bag or 5 of their Belly Flops when you visit---they're cheap and they make good thank you gifts for people taking care of your house/pets when you're on your vacation. :-)

If you want to visit and actually GO on this island, you have to book your trip through the National Park Service. AND you have to do this weeks, months in advance. So we didn't get to do this, but we did take a Blue and Yellow cruise from Pier 39 at Fishermans Wharf, which took us all around the island so you at least got a flavor of it and see it closer than from the shore, so it was a good consolation prize. Next time I get to go to San Fran, I will definitely plan ahead so I can actually go on the island.

What this website doesn't tell you is that this is part of a museum and you have to pay to get into the museum and it's quite pricey...that was disappointing.
We didn't see it because we had other things to do and didn't have time to spend in a museum to get to see this.

I have been here before when the picture looked like you see on this website, but the hedges have all grown now and you can't see the zig zag as well as you actually visit this location. It was disappointing this visit. I'm surprised they still let people drive down this street.

This is worth a visit for sure. Absolutely stunning view of the water/bay below with all the boats out fishing. This was a treat to learn about to go to because of this website. Check it out. Charming little village too.

We drove around and found this while we were in Medford. It was creepy and weird...and I think that was the fun of it, to think that someone would make this HUGE fiberglass bird thing....it's real and it's HUGE---and not really attractive. Been there. Done This.

I thought there was more to this place...We were sure if we had my father in law who is super freaking intelligent along he would have debunked the whole thing, but we were suckers and went for the ride. It's interesting if you've never been to a place like this before but you still have to wonder if it's true/real...but that's the Mystery, I suppose.
