Allegedly haunted, definitely beautiful. I visited the hotel initially for a tour in hopes of having a paranormal experience and due to weather, ended up staying the night. While I didn’t find any spirits, I did find myself in a gorgeous location for the evening with super comfortable beds.

A little history about the property:

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado is not only famous for its old-world charm and excellent service, but it is also known for its “active” paranormal phenomena and spirit folklore. The 100+-year-old hotel, located about five miles from the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, offers panoramic views of Lake Estes and the Rocky Mountains, and especially Long’s Peak.

This old hotel was built in the early 1900s by F.O. Stanley, who created the Stanley Steam Engine — a steam-powered horseless carriage. The majestic Georgian-style hotel opened in 1909, catering to the rich and famous.

Super bummed. I made it a point to stop by to see the museum. They are open 8-3. I got here a little after 1 on a Tuesday and there was a note that they were closed for lunch. I asked the woman cleaning what time they would be back open. They had just gone to break she said and wouldn’t be back for an hour.

Pretty cool to visit. It’s a shame that people graffiti the markers there though.

One piece of advice, pay attention to how you got there if you aren’t using an offline gps as there is no cell service for about a 1 mile radius of this site.
