The Bosque Redondo Memorial at Fort Sumner State Monument solemnly remembers the dark days of suffering from 1863 to 1868 when the U.S. Military persecuted and imprisoned 9,500 Navajo (the Diné) and 500 Mescalero Apache (the N’de) on a reservation known as Bosque Redondo at Fort Sumner, New Mexico— an area that encompassed 1,600 square miles (over one million acres).

The Bosque Redondo Memorial celebrates these two cultures’ dignity, resilience, endurance, courage and strength, in the face of extreme hardship, isolation, sickness and death, to emerge from Bosque Redondo to become the admired and proud people they are today.

We invite you to walk with us as we look into the Navajo and Mescalero Apache cultures and trace the history of the events that led to their terrible incarceration at Bosque Redondo, their incredible survival, and emotional return to their respective homelands.

Tour with us and learn about the Bosque Redondo Memorial that “remembers their past... and celebrates their future.”

The Bonebrake Family's hardware business dates back to at least 1901, when they co-founded the town. But in the 1960s they retired, locked the doors and left. Today you can look in the store windows to see dusty counters and inventory, otherwise unchanged. Promoted by the town as a "museum."

Please stop in and visit on your way through Chandler. My gallery is not open any set hours, so call ahead or just drop in and try your luck. I’d be happy to autograph your copy of the Map Series or EZ 66 Guide (and give you the latest updates), and might even tempt you with some artistic postcards, prints or even a painting. http://www.mcjerry66.com/visit.php

Keokee Store No. 1, also known as the Keokee High School Gymnasium and Darnell's Store, is a historic company store located at Keokee, Lee County, Virginia. It was built in 1910, by the Stonega Coke and Coal Company, and is two-story, gambrel-roofed stone building that has been altered both internally and externally from a community store into a school gymnasium. It was significantly modified in 1939, and the modifications continued through 1954. The building serves as a facility for athletic, educational, and entertainment activities.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Very pleasant home town square. Nice fountain, confederate statue facing south, cannon facing north (of course) and shady places to sit and watch traffic and people. On most days someone might come along to talk to. Some people take picnic lunches there. From the square there are many historical sites that you can walk to.
The only drawback recently is the loud pickup trucks that blast through on a regular basis

If nature calls while relaxing in Circus Square Park, head over to the restored 1921 Standard Oil Station situated on the corner of the park at College St. and 7th Ave. This award-winning preservation project now features public restrooms inside and a fabulous photo opportunity outside and is becoming a must-see stop for auto enthusiasts, history buffs, and general visitors to the city. The building's history is explained on a full-color storyboard.
