We've stayed here several times because of relatives in the area. I picked Site 37 simply because there were not many available when I made reservations but I was pleasantly surprised. The site is a slight incline up but levels off and I did not have to level side to side. Although it is close to the road, it is a park road and there was hardly any traffic or noise. Since it is the last site before the road, there is a nice amount of space on the passenger side with no neighbors and your driver's side neighbor is somewhat behind you because of the curve in the road. Park volunteers provided a star gazing talk Friday night and an eclipse watching experience on Saturday for the October eclipse both of which were nice and done well. We were not able to get any good OTA channels on the TV.

This was our first visit to this state park. Site 15 is a pull thru site with electric, water and sewer. All worked well. It was not heavily shaded but the picnic table has a roof over it for shade. The sites opposite us (such as 3 or 4) provided a little more shade during the day. The pad is asphalt and was fairly level. As others have noted, no cell service or wifi. The Interpretive Center does have wifi which you can access inside (when it's open) or outside if closed. We did tours at McDonald Observatory, drove up the Skyline Drive and hiked the Montezuma Quail trail (nice views overlooking the campground). We saw deer, a javalina and a number of colorful birds we've never seen in the Houston area at our camp site. There are two bird watching areas where they have a number of bird feeders out which was nice.

Because of the historical significance of the rock paintings, camping is limited and controlled. Reservations are handled differently than other state parks in Texas. When you arrive, you have to view a short video about the area and protecting the paintings. Site 1 was fairly level and asphalt with electric and water. There was no shade until the sun got lower and the rocks cast a shadow. The picnic table is covered for shade. Sites 1,3 and 5 have a rock formation as your backdrop which we liked. Sites 6 and 7 are reserved for camp hosts. There was no wifi but there is wifi at the bathhouse. I had 2 bars there. We signed up for a guided tour which I would recommend. The tour took us on the Chain trail, the Site 17 trail and the Pond trail. These are all trails that you can hike on your own but I don't think we would have found some of the paintings if we had not had a guide. To view some of the paintings we had to crouch/crawl through some rock openings and lay on your back. We would love to return in the spring or fall when it isn't 100 degrees outside.

We stayed at this park for two nights. It is a small park but has FHU. Our site was fairly level, in fact, I did not level side to side just back to front. There was a nice amount of room between sites. The park is a very short drive to downtown Blanco. It is also possible to walk if you are younger with energy or have bikes. There are several trails in the park with one running along the Blanco River. We were able to get some OTA channels from Austin. If you go, try the BBQ at the Old 300 BBQ restaurant in Blanco. It is very good.

We stayed in the Elephant Rock campground for two nights. Unfortunately it was raining most of the time so we didn't really see much of the area or hike around. We had a lakeview site with a nice view of the water and the site was relatively level. But there was heavy runoff of sand/mud from the rains onto the cement pad. For that reason, I would not select Site # 66 again. We had 1 bar with ATT.
