We love this park and have been going here for years. This is an older CCC park in the Mountains of West Texas. The elevation is 4,200, which allows for a cooler summer temp, but beware it's West Texas, it'll be hot in August.
Wide variety of campsites, there is a section for Big rigs that are pull through sites. However, there are TREES, as such, watch for the TREES. Why people insist on cutting branches in a Park is beyond me, and illegal.
Dump station, clean restrooms, and if you get tired of camping a beautiful, historic LODGE with a pool and restaurant.
It's in the mountains, no cell service unless you drive/hike to the overlook. Which you should do anyway. There are great hiking trails and you can Hike over the mountains into the adorable town of Ft. Davis, and the Ft. Davis National Historic Site. Really nice reconstructed Frontier Fort.
This is a family park with many programs for kids.
The McDonald Observatory, Ft. Davis, Marfa and Alpine are all within 30 miles. This makes a great base camp for sightseeing the area. And, a great overnight spot when heading south into Big Bend Country.
Just a note, the older the campground the wider the sites but smaller the parking. We parked under a beautiful oak tree, and had to park our vehicle (on pavement) next to our trailer. Not an issue for us.
There can be road noise depending on where you camp. Study the map and choose accordingly. This is a canyon setting, so that makes it echo.

This park south of Junction Texas is perfect for a family camping trip. River access with swimming, tubing and kayaking. Lots of wildlife. Good trails and many are kid friendly for those bikes. Good fishing. Spots are well spaced, camp ground hosts available. Older campground so the big rigs are limited....ALL back-in sites. 30amp, water, and dumpstation available. Showers are spotless. Great bird blinds. Junction is 10 miles away with stores, restaurants and shops. Cell service is spotty, go out to the main entrance. WiFI at headquarters.

You don't go here to Camp and I'm not impressed with the campground. Basic sites, varying amenities, HOT in summer. But, Clean bath house. On the fun side, it's over run with jack rabbits. You've never seen so many jack rabbits. However, people don't go here to camp, they go here to SWIM. Fantastic CCC spring fed swimming pool that is so deep in sections that divers come here to qualify. There is also a great historic motel. Cabins that are reasonable. Short hiking trail through the 'wetlands'.
Balmorhea is not much of a town, basic supplies and gas. This is however a great place to take a break from I20 and a must see if going south into Big Bend Country. You won't regret spending at least one night here during hot weather and if you have kids they will NOT want to leave. Lots of 'townies' on the weekend, get down to the pool early and stake a spot. Where in earth the townies come from, who knows! Bring your floaties and rubber ducks.
This is not your typical camping experience, but oh what fun you'll have cooling off!

I absolutely loved this park. The advantage of having a small camper is that I could fit in the A area right on the lake. Great location. No cell service, but you could go to the boathouse for wifi. Sites are older, but well spaced. Across the Blue Ridge Parkway the other side of the park has new shower house, and dozens of tent sites. Every campground on the Parkway has Fresh water available for filling up and a dump station. NONE of the parks offer hook ups, but who needs them camping? Don't miss these old style campgrounds with great hiking available out your door. The Lake was fantastic!

This is a hidden gem close to Austin Texas. We camped here and visited family and saw the Austin sights. Remember Austin traffic!
This is a heavily treed park with a variety of sites/showers and McKinney Falls! The falls are a popular swimming spot and lots of places to slip into the river along it's banks.
There were some nice hiking trails. This is what I would think is a Urban park, but there are so many trees you don't realize how close the city is.
And, I've never seen so many fireflies at night! However, remember fireflies like damp, and so do mosquitoes. Plan accordingly.
Great family trip!

This is a very unique campground. The big draw is Bottomless Lake, a beautiful swimming 'hole' and CCC Pavillion. This is a popular place for locals to go swimming and party. We did not have time to explore the Park itself, hiking trails were available. As we Visited in July, it was TOO hot to hike, but the swimming was great. Though to be honest, the idea of no bottom was creepy, but they have the swimming area contained. Snack bar, ice available during season.
Campground was ho hum, dated. My big complaint was the bathhouse was filthy. Beware. The Campground hosts were useless and did not reign in noise, parking, etc.
Hopefully, this was just our bad experience.

We stayed as this was close to Roswell. It's a 20 miles out of town, carefully follow your map, you'll think you're lost, but it's a unique park.
Roswell is a tourist town and fun visiting!

This was an overnight stay on a trip. The park has all the amenities, including shower & laundry facilities. But, it is VERY BUSY. It is adjacent to a show horse venue/theme park and very convenient for the horse owners. If you have kids they'll enjoy the pools and game room. I can see this park appealing to families with kids and horses. Great wifi, cell access. Small store, priced accordingly.

Beautiful little campground. Sites are on each side of a narrow valley. Most are tent sites, but some RV sites for smaller 25' or less. Some are double sites. Pick your site carefully. The campground sits between the curve in the highway so you get road noise during the day. Gets quiet at night. Lots of elk wander through, keep your distance and enjoy the herds. You get the occasional stray car driving through, but not many. This year's campground host (2022) does nothing that we saw. We requested toilet paper. In the time we've been here, 5 days, not one restroom or site has been cleaned or trash emptied. We've picked up beer cans, plastic bags, etc. Since the majority of campers appear to care and leave their sites clean, it's not to bad. But, there was a fire left burning at our site. Hopefully, the 2023 host will do their job.

This is a city park on Elm Creek. Nice amenities including a pool. Great fishing/kayak spot on Creek. Nothing fancy, as others have said if it's been raining, choose your spot carefully. There is a campground attendant, so ask them where to park if you're having problems. Ballinger is a nice little town, good grocery store with Deli and a tiny Walmart for supplies. Lots of local folks make use of this park, so don't be surprised at children.

This is another campground on the Texas Forts Trail, so don't miss Fort Griffin!
Sites are widely spaced variety of hookup options, dump station.
Texas Longhorns reside here.
Fishing, boating available.
About 30 miles north of Albany, which is a great little town to visit. Great stop for supplies before heading out. Try the Beehive for real Texas Steaks.
Great playground, kids enjoy riding bikes on the roads. Some trails.
Quiet, check for burn bans.
Cell service? IDK.

Visitor headquarters has a great gift shop. Bathroom house in park.
