Ford cabin can be rented, but there was plenty of dispersed camping along the river. This is a popular and busy river access.

I needed a spot for one night near I-90 and far enough away to not hear the traffic. Nice quiet and well organized campground, near shopping and some fast food restaurants and coffee shop/drive thru. Great access to the Paradise Valley and Yellowstone on Hwy 89. No large shade trees in the center of the grounds for the most part. Fenced pet run area.

I stayed early season in May this year so the rates were lower than mid summer. However the hot springs were closed due to Covid. The springs opened right after I left. Traffic noise is constant. Location is good for accessing different areas of the Gallatin Valley, Bigsky, West Yellowstone and the surrounding communities at the headwaters of the Missouri. When the hot springs are open this cannot be beat as you can soak between 6am and 10pm. Clean bathrooms, and laundry a plus. There are trees with shade but you need to request.

This quaint little campground and motel is situated right on the Tongue River. Nice grassy park setting and relatively quiet. This is a quick drive off I-90 and also on Hwy 14 if you are headed over the Bighorn Mtns. Had the place to myself Friday before Memorial Day weekend. Not ideal for big rigs. Good for tent campers too.

The campground is nothing special, but the location is excellent. Windy hot and dry here, and I camped in May, so I’m sure the summer temps are hot and there are very few trees for shade if any.

After visiting Pipestone, the Minnesota State Parks weren’t open, so I headed west into South Dakota. This is a very nice campground. Mature trees, and lots of sites. Nice for bike riding around the park. I would pick the upper campground again, although the lower campground has lots of shade and right next to lake access.

Nothing special here, although the sites are spaced out so there is privacy. The elevation at 6200 ft is cooler than the Helena Valley. This is an ideal overnighter with easy access from Hwy, potable water, close to town and good cell connection. Highway noise, yes, at night not too bad. The price is right as the KOA in Helena wants $60\night. Excellent solar too.

We floated the Blackfoot From Arrastra creek, and set up a return shuttle from the campground. We ended up coming in late off the river so stayed here. Nice spot with picnic tables, fire pits and pit toilets. Did not see a well for water, so bring water or filter and pump. Campgrounds were empty, and have good spacing. The road in is pretty bad in places but was being graded when we left so perhaps it’s better. Otherwise it’s slow going, but you could get a sizable trailer or RV in here. The pin on the map here is off, look East to the river junction of the north and main forks of the Blackfoot. Quiet spot and excellent fishing.

I’ve always enjoyed this campground. Good quality water available, pit toilets, picnic tables and fire pits. Access to the south end of Swan Lake, boat ramp, picnic area, and kayak, canoe rentals available. No cell service in campground, but I have been able to text from the beach. Paddle out a couple hundred yards into the lake and good cell service! There is also a NWA bird sanctuary just to the south of “downtown” Swan Lake, worth a visit. Road is just past the forest service cabin on the highway.
