We didn’t really know what to expect when we booked at Birmingham South, we just needed a place to stay for the week and it was the only place with an opening. However we were pleasantly surprised when we got here. The people who brought us to our site were very nice, our site is very spacious, there are a lot of trees around which is great for shade in hot Alabama, and we had decent internet - good enough that my wife worked on it all day without realizing it. We have Verizon and we had either 5G or 5G UW the whole time. It’s close to a lot of stores and restaurants, Walmart was 8 minutes away for instance. There is a train nearby that comes around from time to time and an interstate fairly nearby so there is that slight noise to factor in. There are no grills or fire rings though you can bring your own off ground fire pit which is what we did. I personally liked it because it’s an RV Park that feels more like a small campground due to how spacious and “woodsy” it is. Of course not all spots have a lot of trees or are as spacious but most are. I do think $49/night is a little steep for this place but overall it’s one of the better RV parks we’ve stayed at. We’d definitely come back again.

Pros:
For this to be such a small RV park (smallest we’ve stayed at so far) the sites are very spacious! The wi-fi was surprisingly good enough that my wife and I could both work off of it and even stream shows on the Roku the whole week, except for our last day for some strange reason. Of course, with it being close to St. Louis we had great phone service, full bars of 5G with Verizon, and there were a lot of stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc right nearby.

Cons:
There wasn’t any signage telling us where to park to check in or any of that which was more confusing because there’s a separate entrance for the office than there is for the actual park so you have to park on the park side and walk over to the office side. The park seems to be catered to full time/seasonal campers there so there’s not a lot of “amenities” like you’d normally have at an RV park (no bathrooms/showers, pool, fire ring, etc). And of course it’s not necessarily a “pretty” RV park but it’s not really ugly either, just somewhere in the middle.

Pro/con:
I had to make a separate category for this because it was a pro and con. The con is: While we were there they had a record rainfall amount and the park apparently already has flooding issues so it was flooding pretty bad but also our RV was right next to a creek that had risen really high and was in danger of flooding our site completely and maybe even into our RV (worst case scenario of course). The pro is: The staff came out while this was happening to warn us of the potential flooding and offered to let us move to another site away from the creek if we needed to. Luckily, as they were discussing with us the rain had quite and the flooding was going down so we didn’t have to take any action but it was very nice that they came out to check on us and try to give us a safe place to move to.

Overall:
As I’ve mentioned this is a small park that’s not anything overly special but it’s an affordable place that has very spacious full hook up sites and the staff are clearly very helpful and concerned about their guests safety. The 3 stars is more to do with the fact that it just doesn’t have a lot of appealing things and not really a reflection on the quality of the park. Good if you’re passing through or spending the week in the St. Louis area and just need a nice quiet place to stay.

This campground has a lot of nice things about it, but also had some things that make it go from a potential 4 star to a 3 star in our minds. Here’s our breakdown.

Pros: Sites are decently sized and most are pull through with FHU. We were on site 18 which is right up front so we actually didn’t have a camper on the front side of us and had a bit of a “yard” which was nice. It gave our dogs plenty of room to roam. Speaking of dogs, the campground offers a nice little dog park area to allow your dogs to run around in. They also have an area with corn hole boards and a community fire pit that saw a lot of the campers one night sitting around talking and playing music so that was charming. The staff were also very nice each time we interacted with them. The wi-fi was not great but surprisingly good enough that both my wife and I were able to work off of it most days and even able to stream TV from it, though sometimes we had to fall back on our hotspot. They also offer multiple networks so that was great!

Cons: The water pressure. I know that’s not necessarily a deal breaker but the water pressure was awful. Sometimes it would be normal but most of the time it was a stream the size of a pencil or smaller (as you can see in the pictures) and that was with it turned up as high as it would go (which wasn’t much, you basically just had on and off on the faucet). Weirdly enough we never had issues with the shower for the most part but the sinks were almost always terrible.
The website mentions that their spots are all shaded but out of the 85 sites we saw, maybe 10 that had any kind of shade which can be tough on hot days.
The campground was near either an airport or military base because there were multiple large airplanes and jets that flew over every day which was obviously loud.

Overall this was a nice campground, not our favorite by any means but certainly not a bad one. It seems like most people at this campground are either living there full time or seasonally but all sites are well kept so it doesn’t look trashy at all. If not for the water pressure and lack of shade we probably would have given it 4 stars.

We knew next to nothing about this campground before coming here, it was just a week long stop on our way to Maine. We were especially concerned as we got deeper and deeper into the country and further and further from civilization because if this was an awful place it’s not like we could just hop over to another campground nearby. But we were very pleasantly surprised by how great this place was!

Pros:
One of the quietest and most spacious campgrounds we’ve ever stayed in. As you’ll see in the pictures, our campsite was probably a good 200-300 feet or more from the other sites on either side of us so we basically had a large front yard. Throughout the week you could basically hear a pin drop outside, it was only on the weekend that it got “noisier but that was because families had come in like you would expect so it wasn’t bad at all. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring which is always nice. They have a small but very nice pool with a couple tables and some poolside chairs and they provide life jackets for kids and even a poolside cornhole game. My wife and I work remotely and, even though it wasn’t amazing, we had good enough wi-fi through them to be able to work on most of the week and even stream tv with. We did have to rely on our jet pack from time to time but anyone who knows about campground wi-fi knows to even be able to use it at all is a huge plus!

Cons:
Really the only major con was the phone service. We have Verizon and my work phone is T-Mobile and at most would get 2 bars of LTE but it mostly stayed at 1 so if we weren’t connected to the internet or our jetpack our phones were basically useless. But again, out in the country like we were it’s to be expected. There’s also not much in the way of grocery stores or restaurants nearby. There’s one small grocery store and a couple restaurants about 9 minutes away but no big store or fast food place (not that we needed fast food but sometimes it’s nice to have that option when you don’t want to cook). The nearest Walmart is about 25-30 minutes away so just have everything you need before you come.

Overall:
This was one of the best campgrounds we have stayed in in our nearly 1 year of full time traveling. You can tell most people here are either seasonal or full time residents but unlike most campgrounds with that, all their sites were very nice and well kept up. And unlike so many campgrounds we’ve stayed at, people were out sitting by fires or riding bikes and just enjoying the campground which brings a nice charm to it. The only reason it didn’t get a 5 star from us is because of the cell service and quite honestly because we’re very careful to just hand out 5 star ratings unless we’re absolutely blown away. But we would definitely recommend staying here for a week or a month or however long you need to, you’ll enjoy it for sure!

We stopped at Owl Creek for the week on our way to Colorado and didn’t really know what to expect but it turned out to be a really nice campground. We were at site 43 which is close to the office/store. The spots were more spacious than most RV parks we’ve stayed at and I really liked that they had the doghouse sort of thing to make the site number and house all the water and electricity hookups. The pool is really nice and a welcome escape from the summer heat. It went up to 8 feet deep which was surprising for an RV park pool but very nice! The store of course was very quaint with all kinds of cheese, wine, etc. Certainly not your run of the mill store for an RV park. There’s also quite a bit around town there as far as restaurants, stores, and even a really nice movie theater that we visited! My wife and I both work remotely and we’re able to work off their Wi-Fi which is really rare but was a nice surprise. We were close to the office so I’m not sure if that had something to do with it or if it was just that strong. We have Verizon and had around 3 bars LTE consistently. The only real mark against this park is that there aren’t any trees hardly and the most the ones they do have are just small so they don’t provide any shade so for us being there in June it was way too hot to be outside unless we were at the pool. Would definitely still recommend it though for a quick stay!

We stayed here for a week and weren’t very impressed by any means. The front of the park faces a very loud biker bar across the street and the backside which we stayed on butts up to some shop with loud tools/machines a good portion of the day so not a very quiet place anywhere you stay. There are a laundry list of rules and things you can’t do which is always off putting for a campground. There are not many trees so there’s barely any shade so if it’s hot outside there’s really no escape from it. It has laundry but it was the most expensive we’ve seen so far at $3 per wash and $2.50 per dryer load. And they only allow propane fires, not even charcoal grills so for someone who loves a good campfire and to grill on my charcoal grill that was a major negative mark.

We work remotely so good wi-fi is always a bonus but unfortunately this wi-fi was barely usable, even for just using your phone, which is not unusual for a campground but still worth noting. Luckily our Verizon service consistently had 3-4 bars of 5G so we were able to use our jet pack for any internet needs.

The positive things that took it from a 2 star to a 3 star is that the sites are a pretty good size, it’s close to a lot of stores, restaurants, etc, it has a small pool and hot tub (hot tub was out of order while we stayed here), and it has a cool hill you can climb and see views of Denver. We stayed in site M29 which as I mentioned was sort of in the back and was spacious enough for what we needed. The sites are also all concrete so leveling was very easy. Oh, and it had a lot of cute rabbits running around!

Overall it wasn’t the worst place we’ve ever stayed by any means but we would likely not stay here again unless we were just passing through for a night or two and/or if nothing else in the area was available.

We spent 3 weeks at Rest N’ Nest and were very pleased overall with our stay there! Details below.

Pros:
One of, if not the nicest owners we’ve met at a campground. They were very accommodating and did all they could to enhance our experience.
Sites were for the most part a very good size. Our site was meant for an 80’ rig so it was more than long enough for our 30’ RV and Jeep to park in and our “yard” though narrow was plenty large to have a lot of space for our dogs to roam and for us to sit outside etc.
Sites had a fire ring and picnic table. Always a plus!
Each Friday night the owners had a big fire at the office that they invited everyone to and while we didn’t get a chance to do it, it’s a really cool thing they do to allow you to meet and hang out with the other campers.
Beautiful campground with a pond, game/activity room, pool, basketball goal, and playground.

Cons:
Laundry was available which is a pro but they only had 2 washers and 2 dryers and you had to sign up for a time to use them so that was kind of a pain.
Verizon and T-mobile phone service was pretty bad. It would work well enough but not great. If you’re at the top section of the campground you got amazing Wi-Fi but if you were on the bottom section like we were you had nothing. However, they say by next year (2023) they hope to have it all over the campground so I don’t really fault them for that. Luckily our Verizon jetpack was enough that we could work off of but that was it.
The site next to ours (43 I believe) had their water hook up all the way in our site, close enough we thought it was ours and that we were just facing the wrong way. So that was an awkward situation for both parties each time someone had to hook up.

Overall:
This was a great campground that has a lot of potential with the new(ish) owners really trying to update it and upgrade it in a lot of ways. Were it not for the weird layout of ours and our neighbors site as well as the lack of wi-fi and cell service it would have likely gotten 5 stars. But if we make it back there next year I believe that will be the case!

We found Moose River campground because we wanted to visit Stowe Vermont in the October for the Fall and Moose River was the only campground we could find near the area that was open but it turned out being a wonderful option. We got super lucky to get a seasonal spot with a practical front yard facing the River. This isn’t common for every site but most all sites are on the River which is a gorgeous view. There are a lot of seasonal campers there so it feels like you’re staying in a small tight knit community. They provide bagels and muffins every Sunday free of charge which just adds to the charm. The owners, Mary and Gary are super friendly and helpful. Definitely would stay here again!

Snowy Peaks was a pleasant surprise for us. We honestly didn’t know if we should expect much based on the few pictures we saw but it turned out to be one of our favorite places we stayed at! Their park is directly facing the mountains which makes for a gorgeous view! We had site 40 and though it was supposed to be a back in site we pulled our Class A in the other direction so our front door was facing the mountains and it also practically gave us a front yard which was very nice! The only thing that caused that site to not be potentially the best we’ve ever had was that it was W/E only, which we knew beforehand and chose to save money, and it was right on the highway which was surprisingly busy all throughout the day for such a small town so it was quite noisy from that.
The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. The bathrooms/showers, though clearly very old, were kept extremely clean every day. It was the only campground we’ve stayed at in Colorado so far this year that allowed campfires so that was a huge bonus.
We both work full time and were able to work off their internet some. Some days it would work all day just fine, other days we had to switch to our Verizon jet pack so it was just very hit and miss. We did have around 3-4 bars LTE at the campsite the whole time we were there which was also nice considering the lack of service a lot of places we went just outside of the campground.
Overall, this is not the nicest looking RV park you’ll see but it is well maintained, the staff are all great, and the views are to die for! Not to mention Buena Vista is a great little town that’s within an hour of Breckenridge and Vail and also offers great whitewater rafting (we recommend Noah’s ark personally). Definitely somewhere we’d stay again, especially if we could get site 40 again (just a heads up, you do NOT want site 41 unless you don’t plan to spend much time there).

Cedar Haven was one of the nicest campgrounds we have stayed at. As some have mentioned, we don’t have kids but this is definitely a kid/family friendly park with a playground, game room, basketball court, volleyball court, etc. We were there in October so the colors of the trees were gorgeous! The bathrooms and showers were kept clean. The dish washing station and dog washing station were a nice unique touch. The lots weren’t huge but not terribly close to each other - we had plenty of space for our two slide outs and awning. Wi-fi was basically useless, as is the case in most campgrounds, but cell service was really good. We have Verizon and we consistently had 3-4 bars of LTE. Very friendly staff and beautiful campground all around, would definitely recommend and will definitely go back!
