I came back through Clayton headed south from a trip to New Mexico and Colorado and decided after three mountain passes in one day it was a good time to stop. I worried that the highway traffic would bother me but that wasn’t a problem, I was about half way back. It was setup for easy in and out.

I was headed to South Texas and had planned on this as my first night out. I got away from Amarillo late and got here after dark. Thank you young man in a white Ram pickup for your directions. The entrance is so narrow I don’t think you could get a utility trailer through it, I came in the exit and did OK. I was the only RV’er here and in the dark it was almost impossible to get the angles on where to park. I found a spot, put down the landing legs and got some rest. But, it was nice of the Community to provide it, I suspect it is under used.
The natural beauty surrounding Inks Lake and the Park are to be admired, but the narrow roads through the Park and the significantly unleveled RV Pads certainly take away from the experience. They are putting significant money into new buildings, maybe other improvements are on the way.

When I need to get away and don’t have the time to travel far away this is a good standby. The road in is rough and there are a few cattle guards and bridges that need to be taken very slowly. In area 5 & 6 the pads are laid out very strangely and can lead to some tight camping. The grounds are well maintained and the lake is very pretty. It’s a good place to decompress but not a destination park. Friday evenings they have catfish dinner at the Lobo and it’s very good.

I’ve stayed here several times in the past and now find that the State of Texas has paved the roads throughout and put down new RV pads. No leveling necessary. They have circles of six RV Sites and on many of them the first site to the right of the entrance is a pull through.

I spent one night on my way through Childress, I don’t enjoy pulling my rig at night and this was a good alternative. I took a walk around their lake and then went to grocery store for provisions. I will probably stop in again when the circumstances allow.
