The official description is incorrect. The scenes where Forrest is on the bench, waiting for the bus were filmed in Savannah, GA. His lifelong home, which was set in Alabama for the film, but in reality it was filmed in South Carolina at the Bluff Plantation. This is where the scene with his leg braces falling off and Jenny screaming "Run, Forrest, run!" was filmed, along with a few other scenes outside the house.
