The scenes where Forrest is on the bench, waiting for the bus were filmed in Savannah, GA. His lifelong home, which was set in Alabama for the film, but in reality it was filmed in South Carolina at the Bluff Plantation. This is where the scene with his leg braces falling off and Jenny screaming "Run, Forrest, run!" was filmed, along with a few other scenes outside the house.Ok, so the actual house was a fake built for the movie, but all the scenes of him waiting on the bus and running up and down the road where filmed right here at Bluff Plantation. Stop by and take a run up the dirt road.

this is private property can't see the road only from outside kind of like a waste of time

You can see the road/fence shown above. The existing paved road was covered with dirt for filming. Beautiful off the beaten path area.
