Came for a family reunion in July 2018. Thankfully most of the family stayed in nearby VRBO so we could get away. Since we had a small trailer, they stuck us in a tiny site where the only view was of our neighbors’ sewer hoses. The lady who checked us in acted annoyed that we were there. We left 2 days early and found a site down the road at a Forest Service campground. Stay away!

One positive: the restaurant was very good.

Very nice place just south of Taylor Park. Large gravel sites, electric hookups. Very clean and well maintained. Camp host was very nice.

Forest Service campground with paved roads and pads. We brought our 27 foot travel trailer in from the north on FS 858 off of US 50. About 20 miles of good gravel road except for the last 2 miles, which were wash boarded and slow. Heard the road from the east over Owl Creek pass was much worse.

The lower loop of the campground was nice with water, clean outhouses, and good roads. The upper loops had crumbling roads and pads.

Very few people there even on Saturday of Labor Day weekend.

Just as advertised, nice level concrete pads, small grassy areas by each site. One fenced dog area, one open area. Price is $45 with Good Sam discount, $50 without. Very friendly and efficient at check in. One of the nicest parks we’ve seen.

Negative: typical RV park small sites.

Beautiful campground at the confluence of two forks of the Elk River. Wonderful trails in the area.

This is an older campground best suited to tents and RVs less than 20 feet. We reserved a site with a 36’ driveway for our 28’ trailer. Got in the site ok, but the roads in the campground were challenging.

The campground was quiet and the camp host was very laid back concerning our dogs.

We stayed here for 3 nights in early March 2024 while visiting friends and family in the Tucson area.

Pros: easy online booking, very friendly people, close access to desert hiking trails, good access roads, reasonable price ($45/night), very quiet at night, good sized pull through site

Cons: site numbers hard to read, long drive to town (and Tucson traffic is brutal)

Laundry room was good but lots of machines were broken. You have to pay with a credit card. That was fine until one of the machines broke and locked our soapy clothes inside. Front desk person said we’d have to wait until the repair person came. Machine eventually unlocked and we moved the soapy clothes to a different machine.

Overall a good experience and we’d stay here again.

Very remote state park. Long drive from major roads on a very narrow one way twisting road not for the faint at heart. We stayed at Indian Creek, which has 3 levels. The higher levels were empty except for us and 2 other campers and had great views of the lake. Lake is not very accessible due to steep banks.

Lots of loud partiers on lowest level of the campground but we were far enough away so they didn’t bother us. Site 41 is a pull through with water and electric. Dump station at McCormack.

No cell service.

We arrived at about 2pm on a Friday in early March. The campground was less than half full, and we scored a primo spot at the north end. The campground is very wide open, but the sites are widely spaced and there were several that would accommodate our 31’ travel trailer. The rv dump is clean and has fresh water.

We enjoyed the wonderful desert trails in the area. The visitors center is nice and the people working there were great.

The campground was full by Saturday afternoon so don’t count on getting a spot if you get in late on a weekend.

We arrived at about 3pm on a Sunday in early March. Very few campers on the road. The sites are large and far apart. The road is rough and wash boarded. We had no trouble with our 31’ travel trailer, but we went very slow. Beautiful scenery, one of the nicest dispersed areas we’ve ever visited. The only drawback is the lack of cell service, we couldn’t find anything with our AT&T phones.

We arrived on a Saturday in mid August. The park was advertised as full but it was very quiet…almost spooky. The spots are well spaced with nice grass between them. Lots of long termers but not in sight. The staff was super friendly and helpful, they even gave us a bag of fresh peaches. Will definitely stay here again.
