We stopped at the SNRA headquarters to use the dump station, then realized there was some excellent designated dispersed camping just up the road, and decided to stay! The views here are amazing, high mountain ridges on both sides of the road, and a beautiful river running through the valley, right behind our site!
The sites are all well spaced, we couldn't see any other campers! The road could be a bit rough, but nothing to shy away from, just take it slow. Cell signal was surprisingly good, but degraded as you drove further up the road. Fresh water and dump station available at the bottom of the hill, at the entrance to the road, honor system fee of $5 for the dump station.
Be aware that this is active bear country; we were stopped on the road by rangers who told us that a campsite further up the road had been raided by a bear who was successful in getting food. They brought in a live bear trap that afternoon and the indicated that the animal would likely have to be euthanized. Camp bear aware!

We had a great experience in Rio Grande Village! The Chihuahuan Desert made for a great, warm environment for early March, and the nearby Chisos Mountains offered cooler temps during peak daytime highs, which got as high as 97 along the Rio Grande!
A wonderful, older campground, with well maintained amenities. The sites are not large, and there is not much foliage to separate them from each other, but the sites are of comfortable size and there is a good effort to maintain shade trees. Bathrooms are clean and in good condition, no showers in the campground, but coin showers are available at the camp store. No cell service, but there is WIFI at the camp store and most of the five visitor centers throughout the park.

Intending to travel past Sun Valley into the Sawtooth region, on a whim we pulled in to see what this campground was like. I'm sure glad we did! A perfect family camping setting with a lovely river flowing along the campground boundary, a hiking/biking trail connected to the campground, and views upon views! Convenient location near the mountain town of Ketchum with all the necessary services and more!
Many sites are small, but plenty of room for tents, vans, small RVs and trailers. we found a few that would fit our 36ft travel trailer. A great spot, we will definitely be back!

We pulled in without reservations on a Monday afternoon in mid-March. The campground was full and in high demand. We were fortunate to arrive earlier in the day, as we were able to secure one of their "overflow" sites; six sites, arranged in a circle, no hookups, somewhat detached from the park itself. We were able to find a suitable site, although most are sized for tents, vans, or small RVs. The host told us that we would have to move up to the main campground if an opening came available, as this was overflow and not intended to be a full-time campsite. We were able to stay in our site throughout our stay, as there were many others contending for the few openings that came available. We were content to stay where we were.
Overflow sites have access to all of the services of the campground; fresh water, dump station, bathhouse (with showers), dumpsters, etc, although most are a short drive up the hill and into the main campground.
Overall, this was a pleasant place for us, we'd come back again, even if just for the overflow sites!

We stayed here only two nights back in early July '22, wish we would have stayed longer. Absolutely one of our favorites!
The paved loops are a bit tight, most sights are small, but we found a few that would fit our 36ft travel trailer. Nice hiking/biking trail connected to the campground, the trees are beautiful! The pit toilets had just been repainted, inside and out, and were in very good order. Water spigots spread throughout the park. No dump station, and I don't recall an trash dumpsters. No Verizon signal, nothing for our booster to boost.

One of top favorites for our whole family! Swimming, boating, paddleboarding, hiking, biking... all from this excellent forest service campground. We arrived without reservations, would definitely recommend them for future visits, we were able to find an available site that could fit us, but not a guarantee in this very popular campground!
Not many large sites, plus some low hanging branches, so not well suited for large trailers or RVs. No dump station, but one is available at the RV resort just outside the camp entrance for $12.
