We spent our first ever night of boondocking here in our 2020 4x4 Sprinter. There was only one other camper van about a mile away in this entire huge place. The views were stunning and it was very quiet. Since there was no cell signal, we had a hard time finding the entrance (the gate) to this place at night. So, first lesson learnt: arrive during daylight to your intended boondocking site. The only way we’ve found this place in total darkness was looking for mile post 545 using the LED light bars mounted on our roof rack. The road was mostly flat and accessible by 2WD, though a higher clearance is helpful.

We stayed only one night, but wouldn’t mind at all if we stayed longer. The site was level and quite private. We weren’t able to stay in a lake front sit, but ours was very close to the lake that came with a slight view of the water. There’s a gate that locks between 8 pm and 8 am. You can get a key card with a $10 deposit. The lake is beautiful and the campground was very quiet. It was also very easy to find.

Like other reviewers have noted, this is the place to go if you can’t find a site next to the river available. We went to 3 campgrounds next to the river and there were all full. This was a day after the Labor Day weekend and we thought it won’t be a problem finding a river site. Wrong! So we were very pleased to find this campground totally empty. We only had a local in a pickup drove though the campground and then left quickly probably looking for a place to party. Then just before 10 pm, a tent camper came and stayed at the opposite end of the campground. The sites were relatively flat and each had a picnic table and a fire ring. There were some trash at the site next to us and we picked them up before we left the next morning. This campground doesn’t have the great view, but the quietness (sin the bugs singing) and the view of the stars made it a great place for one night.
