We arrived on a Thursday and had the campground all to ourselves while the river campgrounds were all full. A few more campers came in for the weekend but there were still many empty sites. Sites themselves are in an open area, no shade and no site line privacy. It's incredibly quiet and peaceful. You'll have a bit of a drive to get down to the river or to any trail heads. There is a quiet gravel road that can be walked for some lite exercise, pretty much never any traffic.
From the main road to the CG turn is about 1/2 mile, it's single lane and not really any turnouts, meeting someone else in a camper would be problematic. That was also the case for the three CGs down on the river as well. Otherwise, easy access and totally worth it if you want some isolation.

Great spot. Seemed to be maintained pretty well. Fire rings and gravel pads. Had 1-2 bars of AT&T. Not real scenic, but secluded. Had a vanlifer there the first night and a car camper the next. A solid one lane road with a couple switchbacks turns to a gravel road. Most should be able to make it in. Even had a por-o-let.

Like other reviewers have noted, this is the place to go if you can’t find a site next to the river available. We went to 3 campgrounds next to the river and there were all full. This was a day after the Labor Day weekend and we thought it won’t be a problem finding a river site. Wrong! So we were very pleased to find this campground totally empty. We only had a local in a pickup drove though the campground and then left quickly probably looking for a place to party. Then just before 10 pm, a tent camper came and stayed at the opposite end of the campground. The sites were relatively flat and each had a picnic table and a fire ring. There were some trash at the site next to us and we picked them up before we left the next morning. This campground doesn’t have the great view, but the quietness (sin the bugs singing) and the view of the stars made it a great place for one night.

We stayed for a while only one other camper stayed for part of it. People do drive through (which is kinda weird to be honest) about 4-10 times a day. Each site has a table and fire ring. There is a Porto pot, but definitely was not even going to use it as a option. Lots of sun for solar our AT&T wifi worked just find (it did not at the river sites close by)town is close enough to go if you need anything. No pull through sites, but each site has a large pad you can back into (even big rigs)

I can’t stress this enough - if you plan on staying here, be prepared to protect yourself and your property if needed. I was here for 3 nights and every night an old beat up Chevy blazer drove through, pretty obviously looking for stuff to steal (don’t come at me- I know what that looks like). Being a solo traveler, I would have left if I was the only one here but luckily there was a nice couple across the way and we chatted and agreed to look out for each others things when we left the campground. There is NO reason for anyone to drive through unless they’re scoping it out for a place to camp, as it’s very isolated from everything. There’s some residences nearby but it’s a good 40 minutes to the NRG visitors center or any civilization.
On the plus side, I had one bar of AT&T service, it was very quiet, spots were large and easy to pull into and all were somewhat level with tables and fire pits. No amenities here. Had decent sun for solar as well. Just make sure you feel comfortable in a kinda sketchy isolated place before choosing to stay here.
