Halfway through a 9 Hour drive I needed a place to stay so I checked Campendium, of course. Found this place listed without much information so give it a try. Basically a flat paved spot at the end of a city park paved road overlooking a lake. No services, but also no hassles. Tons of room for my 17 foot camper van, even with four other larger trailers on site. Overall it’s exactly what I need: a free, clean, quiet place to spend the night. If you like the plaintive sound of trains in the distance, this is the place for you.

Great spot by the lake, some neighbors already here maybe 12 sites taken but plenty of room for one more. Beautifully remote.

I came on a Tuesday and called ahead to confirm availability. No problem I was told unless I plan to stay through the weekend when it was fully booked. Only one night for me so no problem. Staff are courteous and well-informed, I asked and got for a spot near the showers which are some of the best that I have seen and include two toilets and sink. Campsite well organized, good power and water hook ups. Pretty much had the place to myself, although there were a few folks staying near the entrance. A bit warm and buggy for late October, but I ran the AC till the temp was reasonable and had bug screens up so no problem. Highly recommend this place. Price is 50% off for 63 and over.

As I said eating shrimp and crab gumbo in Lake Charles I called and booked this site for Thursday night, only 30 minutes away. The place is full of tall trees and swamp scenes. It helped the cold front had blown through and the bugs were down. Site could not be better including 110V and water. Park ranger checked to see that I had reservation and was all good to go. Beautiful place, I would definitely come back.
