This campground is in a great location relative to town, but the sites are tiny and most of them are within 30’ of one another, and with little in the way of buffer. If you like a little bit of privacy, like we do, this is probably not the place for you. The bathrooms are also very small for the areas they are intended to serve, and their cleanliness is not great. Next time, we will try one of the many smaller campgrounds that are located along the Bow Parkway. Certainly, these are 10-15 minutes farther from town, but the campgrounds appeared to be far less congested, much more private, and much more picturesque.

We love this location and definitely like that it’s free. We have camped here several times before and like the location relative to fishing on the Beaverhead and like that it’s fairly close to town. We camped here the second week of September 2018, and got overrun by bugs at dusk and mid morning. At least the bugs were of the non biting variety, but we filled up our van with about 300 of them before we realized what happened. Not the end of the world, and not like we’ve seen this here before, but just be aware. And for what it’s worth, the bugs seem to congregate under the roof of the picnic table structure, and they are very opportunistic when you pull up. Otherwise, great spot.

This place is simply the best campground in the area. Great location on the river, phenomenal hosts, and the cleanest campground bathrooms that we have ever seen. We would definitely stay again!

Loved that we could walk to the quaint town of Philipsburg, especially the brewery!! If looking for a jazzy RV Park, this is not it. However, there are three sites, fairly level and the $30/night includes full hookups. The one disappointment for us is that we are not fully contained & it would have been nice to have at least a port-o-potty on site. This mining town is full of history and the locals are very friendly. We will definitely come back.

Our first experience camping at Fairgrounds. Dense grass camping area with large maple trees for shade. Great for when there is not an event and a convenient overnight. Questionable otherwise, tight spots and close to your neighbors. We were the only ones here in the North Lot. Our spot had water/electric and close to the bathrooms/showers that were an added bonus. All the amenities of a small city in close proximity, including a decent brewery, Ten Pin.

Sites are paved and reasonably level. Adjacent trail system is excellent for mountain biking or hiking. 5 minute drive to town, including a couple of breweries. LazyG Brewery food, beer, & service was excellent!! We went two nights in a row. That said, the pit toilets desperately need to be updated. Not very clean & smelled foul for this time of year (Nov.). The water was turned off and a couple of loops were closed.

The reviews I used to choose this campground were spot-on. Big sites, all paved, with plenty of privacy. There really isn’t a bad site in this entire campground. There are also hiking and biking trails at the trailhead located at the entrance to the campground. The camp host is great and he’s been here for 5 seasons. The vault toilets are reasonably clean and there are drinking water spigots located around the campground. The drive to Missoula takes about 35 minutes, which isn’t bad considering all the other pluses about this campground. There are plenty of amenities located in the closer communities of Lolo and Stevensville, including 3 breweries. I also loved the low-key, first-come-first-served basis for securing a site. You just grab an open site and stay and don’t have to wade through an overly complex reservation system. Great spot!

I had high hopes for this place due to its close prioximty to town, but that faded quickly before we were able to get a site. The young girl and guy at the kiosk told me that they indeed had sites available, but they were unable to allow me into the park to pick the site of my choice. They advised that I could take the “5-minute” walk into the park through the woods, but before I could do that, I had to transcribe the list of available sites onto a map that they reluctantly decided to give to me. After a 10-minute walk through the woods, over railroad tracks, and up 2 reasonably steep hills, I found the beginning of the campground. I spent another 10 minutes walking the paved roads looking at the sites, and the another 10 minutes back to the kiosk only to learn that they “had just given away” the site that I had picked. For what it’s worth, the other sites that were available were all shared parking sites and were essentially on top of one another, so I did not find an acceptable 2nd choice. When the young girl asked me if I’d like to pick another site, I politely said that I wasn’t interested. And before I turned and walked away, I recommended to her that they needed to improve their process of allowing people into the park to view available sites. Shockingly, she agreed. Don’t stay here. The sites are not all that great and the people that work here are not very helpful. For what it’s worth, we backtracked south and stayed at Sunset Beach State Park. Much nicer sites and much better check-in process.

I read a negative review of Langhor Campground which is just below Hood Creek, and I generally agree with that review. Don’t waste your time with Langhor, go straight to Hood Creek because it’s only 5 minutes farther up the canyon. Nicely maintained sites, most of which are on the reservoir. Clean bathrooms and very private setting. We will definitely return when in the area.
