We stopped over at the Mayberry Campground on our way home from SC. Easy access off the highway. Some reviews mentioned highway noise. We did not hear any. The campground was very quiet, clean and peaceful. It looked like there were quite a few permanent sites. We were in a section that had many people stopping overnight enroute to or from Myrtle Beach. We unhooked and took a ride in to town to experience Mayberry. The camp staff were very friendly and helpful. The family clearly takes great pride in their property. We got a first responder special rate. Would definitely stop overnight again.

We had heard so many great things about Atwood Lake and since it was only about an hour from our home we decided to give it a try in our recently purchased vintage camper. We were so relieved to find out our site was in an older section (Section 4) outside of the main campground. What a relief that was! There is a fantastic trail system that allowed us easy access to the Welcome Center, Campground Store and exploring other sections of the campground. Pretty much everything inside the campground is packed in tight with no shade. Section F is an older section on a peninsula. Sites are really packed in there and we found it difficult to drive our truck through that loop. Overall, the main campground feels overcrowded with a trailer park feel. If you want quiet, shade and some privacy, this is not the place. Our site (105), in the older section along Atwood Lake Road, was very private, along the lake and surrounded by mature trees. Many permanent sites in this section made it very quiet. The restrooms/shower were immaculate! The trails are incredible!

This was our second visit to Huntington Beach State Park. We love the access to restaurants and grocery stores. The bathhouses in our section looked recently renovated. They were bright and very clean. We rode our bikes everywhere. We were surprised to see an alligator (5-6 foot long) in the campground and learned from many other campers that it is not uncommon during mating season. We love the more private wooded sites. We were in 114 in August ‘23 and 106 in April ‘24.

Edisto is now our favorite SC destination! We camped here in August ‘23 (Beach site 5) and the heat was unbearable. We love cooking while camping and were frustrated by the limited grocery options. We weren’t sure if we would visit again. But, we visited in April this year and the weather was great. We came prepared with all the necessities to complement the fresh seafood and vegetables we were able to buy on the island. Our site was like a tropical paradise (Beach site 9). We were next to the beach access and could hear the surf all the time. We had a daily show by many dolphins and collected shark teeth. Be sure to check out Botany Bay! We can’t wait to return!
