10 nights here gave us a good variety of experiences. Because of Covid, about only 1/2 the sites are available, and that made the overall experience quite a bit better. Many of the sites are *very* close to each other, which would be good if camping with friends, not so good if strangers of a different sleep schedule were right next to you. Overall, the sites' pads are level enough that getting a trailer level isn't challenging, and there are plenty of tent spots that are flat enough and clear enough that tent camping would be pretty comfortable. The loop's outer sites have very nice wooded views and there is enough exposure for solar panels to do their job; it's a very nice combination. When the crowds are gone, the campsite is very quiet and peaceful. There are a few decent hiking trails nearby, as well as numerous forest roads for those that like to explore by motorized vehicle. The camp host is super friendly, the water is pretty good (quite good if you hook up your hose/filter and fill your water that way) and the vault toilets are kept clean.

This campsite was incredible. Close enough to highways and the main road to not feel like an adventure getting there, far enough off the beaten path to be quiet and feel private. The sites were roomy, ours was almost perfectly flat and offered a surprising bit of shade. The trickiest part of the the stay was making the right turn off of 220 to get to the gravel road that leads to the sites.

The central hub - where the waterfall is - for the area was VERY crowded, as were a lot of the spots on the side of the road by the creek to the east. There is a very sizable area just past the spot where the road on the west side goes from the pavement that leads to the sunspot highway turns to gravel. It was level, open, and easy access. LOTS of sun/sky view to run our solar, and little to no traffic during the weekday. We had a HUGE area completely to ourselves. It's close enough (30 minutes) to Cloudcroft if you forget/need anything basic, and far enough away to feel like you're almost in the wilderness.

Be careful if you're towing, though. The road that comes in from the east is quite narrow in places and offers little chance to turn around and plenty of areas where passing another car/truck/RV is not possible.

The number of places to camp here is amazing. The sites vary in size, level, proximity to other sites, and shade, but some hunting should get you what you're looking for. There was the faintest of road noise from highway 89, and the atv traffic was also frequent, but the overall experience was excellent. It's close enough to Flagstaff that a supply run doesn't feel onerous, and far enough away to feel isolated.

When we pulled into the campground, we were really impressed with how well spaced the sites were, the wonderful forest around us and the friendliness of the camp hosts. The availability of potable water is always nice, and it's close enough to town for good food (and car repairs) if you need it, and lots of hiking and adventure to be had nearby.

What started out as a good deal - the last site in the row, against the creek - turned into an almost untenable situation. The rows at the campground are exceptionally narrow, requiring us backing in the trailer, a length of about 50 yards. Fortunately, there was a staff member to help guide my husband as he backed the truck and trailer into the spot, possibly saving our marriage. Our neighbors were extremely close. So close that they had to move 3 chairs and their picnic table out of our way so we could have just enough room between the trailer and the fence to open the door and walk out. Once we were settled in, it became obvious that the campground wireless did not have the strength to reach our site.

On the plus side, it is really close to Garden of the Gods and Red Rocks hiking areas.

Overall a great campground. The only downside is that it is right on the road with nothing to block the site and sound of cars passing. It’s not a busy road, so it’s manageable. The sites are large and the surrounding forest is lovely with good hiking nearby.

If you could give a view 6 stars on a 5-star scale, this would deserve it. The view of the Superstition Mountains was breathtaking. There is, we found, an enormous variety in the quality of sites here. Because of a lack of planning on our part, we stayed in three different sites - 122 (2 nights), 52 & 118 (1 night each). Some of them seemed quite private and afforded amazing views, some were only okay. The camp hosts were all very friendly, the sites were all well paved and flat enough to only need a single leveling pad under a wheel. The bathrooms aren't easily accessed from the upper loop, and the dump station was pretty crowded on Sunday morning. Still, it was a really wonderful place to stay for a long weekend. Access to hiking - including the trails in Tonto NF adjacent to Lost Dutchman - is excellent.

We stayed here for a night towards the end of a long road trip, at the last site on the main road before the "no overnight camping beyond this point" sign. The site was level, the gravel road getting there was relatively nice, and the scenery was astonishing. This is truly a boondocking site - no water, no power, etc. but more than worth the price of free. Make sure you have enough water & power and you're in for a great experience. If you have a really big rig, it might not be the place for you.
