Stayed here 5/9/20 to 5/24/20. As other reviewers have noted, the road can be a bit rough in a few spots, but I didn't have any trouble with my 26' TT. The rocky hill that others have mentioned is on the west side of the loop. I ended up grabbing a spot before the hill (going counter clockwise around the loop - coords 34.991811,-106.167717) so I never had to deal with it. I don't think it would have been a huge issue with my rig though. The hill itself isn't that big, it's just really rutted and rocky.

Overall this is a pretty awesome place. It was very lightly trafficked and I only ever saw a few other people camped there in the 15 days I stayed, even though there are tons of spots. There are spots for any size rig here, and most of them are very private.

It is true that there's a gun club just down the road, but this really didn't bother me too much. It wasn't constant and only occasionally would someone go out there and shoot. This was during COVID-19 though, so maybe under normal circumstances it's more busy. Also, because of the COVID thing they weren't enforcing any stay limits. Someone mentioned to me that there is normally a 7 day stay limit. In the whole time I was there though, I never once saw anyone out patrolling.

The only real downside here was the trash. I tried to do my part and pick up as much as I could, but I noticed areas I picked up got littered again even in the time I was there, so it's clearly an ongoing problem, which is unfortunate.

The roads around the park are really nice to walk and bike around. If you go out and explore you'll see there are tons of really neat campsites all over the park that you could get to with a smaller rig like a van or just as a tent camper.

Verizon service here was pretty decent. My iPhone XS gets terrible reception and it didn't do too well, but my jetpack picked up pretty good service and I was able to work and stream video without many problems.

Edgewood has just about anything you could need, including a Walmart, and Moriarty has quite a bit of stuff too. You're also only about 30 min from the Sandias here, which has a ton of great hiking. I dumped/filled at Happy Trails RV Park in Moriarty for $15 and the woman working there was extremely nice and helpful.

Stayed here 1/26/19 to 2/2/19. The other reviewers have pretty much covered it. This location is essentially a giant gravel parking lot. I'm not sure how many rigs would fit here, but at times there were probably 15-20 and there was still room for more. Everyone I met here was extremely friendly and a few times some of them did a campfire and invited everyone. You can't beat the location, as it's right between Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains national parks. It did get very windy here at times, but that is to be expected this time of year. I had read all the reviews mentioning the pack rats, and came fully prepared with lights and everything, but no one else had their hoods open or lights setup. I ended up putting a string of lights under my rig, but that's it. I didn't have any issues at all the week I was here, but it's possible the rats just weren't out this time of year.

I think it's really great that this park exists and is maintained. Almost every day I saw someone come in and empty all four trash cans, so thank you to the people that make this campground possible!

Stayed here 10/10/2020 to 10/11/2020. I'm not sure how you can complain, as this is just a free Walmart spot to stay for a night. It's true that this spot is not very quiet and is quite bright, but you have to expect a certain level of noise and lights when you camp at a business that's open 24/7 and is right off the highway.

I called ahead before coming here and they told me they allowed overnight stays as long as you stayed in the back of the lot. I also camped in the very back by the bank and the spot was nice and level and was shaded as the sun was going down. I was here on a Saturday night and was the only camper. It was very convenient to grab Subway inside for dinner and pick up some groceries and supplies while I was in there. I'm really thankful there are still a few Walmarts out there that are letting us stay overnight.

Stayed here 2/23/20 to 3/1/20. The previous reviewer is correct that the reservation system is a disaster. Making a reservation online is almost impossible to figure out without calling them. And unfortunately when you call them they can't do it over the phone so you still have to go through the website anyway. However, they are very friendly and will instruct you on how to get through the online reservation system. It's really tedious and annoying but I managed to book a week on the website and it all worked out. I will say though that no one came and put a sign or anything on my site saying that I had reserved it, and I never once saw anyone working out at the park so I think someone easily could have hopped in my spot not knowing it was reserved. So yeah, this system is kind of a mess, but the girl I talked to said they were working on improving it.

This park is dry camping only and doesn't have a dump station or any water available. I had filled up with water at my previous campground, and then used the dump station at the Love's a couple miles down I-10.

One thing that I found kind of strange about this park is that it's right off the parking lot at an extremely popular trailhead. So if you're looking for peace and quiet this isn't the place. This does give you fantastic access to all the hiking trails and the restrooms though.

Another important thing I have to mention is the cell service... people are reporting 1 or 2 bars of verizon LTE, but in the week I was there the service was so spotty that it was pretty much unusable. Occasionally I'd get a bar of LTE, but it would be so short lived that I couldn't really make phone calls or do any work. It seemed to work better in the morning and at night, but during the day you can count on pretty much no service at all. If you need cell service to work like I do, definitely look elsewhere.

Overall this is a beautiful park and I'm saying that I would camp here again because it was affordable and close to some nice trails, but for a full-timer like myself that likes to stay for a week and still works, it's not the best option.

Stayed here 4/14/2020 to 4/25/2020. I camped here with some friends in another rig and we had no trouble finding a big site to accommodate both rigs. There are two spots you can turn into this area. The first is really rutted right at the beginning, but is completely smooth after that. If you go really slow over the ruts, this is probably the best way to go. The second entrance is a little more narrow and rocky but not too bad.

Verizon signal here was fantastic and we had no trouble working or streaming video. It's also about 15 miles from Alamogordo which has all main stores and services you would need. I used the KOA in Alamogordo to dump my tanks, trash, and fill up with water which was only $5 and very easy access. The KOA also has propane. On the way out I used the dump station at the Chamber of Commerce which was also very easy access for dumping tanks and trash (no set price, but they take donations), but didn't have any water.

Overall this was a fantastic boondocking site!

Stayed here 4/25/20 to 5/9/20. There aren't many campsites here, but my friends and I (one other rig) were able to pick up one of the first spots. There's a massive pull-through site that could accommodate any rig, but that was occupied so we took the site before it which was no problem for two medium sized travel trailers. It's quiet and peaceful up here, with a lot of privacy between the sites. There's also a ton of great hiking and mountain biking trails around. Plus you have the equestrian campground just down the road where you can fill up with water and dump your tanks. Ruidoso is about 20 miles away and has most things you need. The small town of Capitan actually had a nice coin-op laundry facility as well. Verizon cell service here was perfect and I had no trouble working or streaming video for the two weeks I was here.

Highly recommend this area if you're looking for a spot a bit off the beaten path!

Stayed here 7/15/19 to 7/17/19. This is an excellent spot to stay if you plan on seeing Capitol Reef. You're right next door to the park and you also have a nice gas station with a Subway just down the road. I had trouble finding anything in this area that had cell service, but this one seemed to have good reports so I decided to take a chance. I'm not sure if it's because I don't have a cell booster, but I didn't have any cell service here at all. It would bounce between 1x and no service. I had about 10 glorious minutes of 3g service where I was able to get online but then it went away and I never got it again.

I camped just past the cattle guard, a couple of sites down on the right. I was somewhat hesitant to set up here because there wasn't anyone else here when I arrived except a motorhome down the road that looked like it belonged to someone that was working there. I decided to stay anyway and never had any problems.

As another reviewer said, the sign is a bit hard to notice. Look for the "1280 East" sign. I also had a lot of trouble getting out of my site and getting turned around. I later looked on Google maps and realized that if I had gone further down the road there appeared to be places to easily turn around.

Stayed here 9/4/2020 to 9/7/2020. If you've been to a KOA before you basically know what to expect here. As others have said, it's great for a stopover. I was in an electric/water hookup site only and used the dump station on the way in. An employee guided me to the dump station and then to the site which was nice. No rinse water at the dump station though which I thought was strange. This is a really nice location to get around Laramie. I actually rode my bike to the Wyoming Territorial Prison which was only a mile or so away. Showers and laundry were both nice and clean. My site didn't have a picnic table or fire ring or anything and was very cramped with my neighbors, but it was only a couple nights so I didn't really care. There is a pretty considerable amount of highway noise here. Overall a great place to dump, fill-up, get propane, and take care of some laundry, as well as check out downtown Laramie.

Stayed here 12/21/19 to 12/29/19. My rate is for the weekly rate ($240/week) plus one extra day ($40). I originally tried to stay at Sunset RV Park and they were full, but the person I talked to recommended I try Henly RV Park, which she said was their sister location. It was Christmas time and I was struggling to find a place to stay so I agreed. She warned me that the park was largely under construction, but since I was in a pinch I didn't really care.

The construction here was definitely extensive. About half the park was being worked on the entire time I was here. It looked like they were mostly adding a bunch of new sites and doing rock work. I would guess in a couple months they will be completely done with it though, as the sites were mostly finished and people (like myself) were already staying in them. I've tried to disregard all of the construction in my rating because that is a temporary situation that hopefully won't be there for future campers, but if you're looking for a place in early 2020 and want peace and quiet, this probably isn't the place for you. If you wait until the construction is done, it should be great though.

When I arrived the park had just gotten a ton of rain and it was very muddy. The pads are made out of some kind of crushed rock that is finer than gravel but more course than dirt. It was kind of unusual and was one of the only things I didn't really like about the park because I found that I was constantly tracking the stuff into my camper. It also seemed to rut when it was wet, so I'm not sure how the sites are going to be affected over time.

The host, Sarah, was very easy to work with. Most of my communication with her was done through text. She even texted me several times checking in to make sure everything was going well and that my WiFi was working properly. The WiFi was much faster than most parks I've stayed at and was perfect for getting work done. The cell service here (Verizon) is also amazing and I had almost full bars the entire time.

When I arrived the electric wasn't working at my site, so I texted Sarah and she had someone over fixing it within 5 minutes. I also had multiple staff members come introduce themselves and tell me to let them know if I needed anything. The service from the staff here was some of the best I've had at any RV park.

The park offers many of the amenities you would expect such as trash, laundry, full hookups, and propane refills. I never used the laundry while I was here so I can't comment on that. I'm not sure if they had restrooms/showers as I didn't look for them, but I don't think they did. There weren't any picnic tables or fire rings on the newer side of the park where I was staying, but it sounded like they were going to be adding them soon.

One thing I liked is that they just kept my credit card number on file and so when I requested an extra day they just charged it to my same card, and also when I had a propane tank filled they came and picked it up, filled it, and brought it back then just charged my card. It was really convenient not having to go in and pay each time.

Overall I was really happy that they were able to get me a spot at this park during the busy holidays, and despite all of the construction I still really enjoyed my stay. It was convenient to get to a lot of stores and the breweries/wineries that are in the area, and was only about 30 miles from Austin. I think once all of the construction is complete this is going to be a great RV park.

If you’re looking for an affordable, no-frills RV park near Cortez, Durango, and Mesa Verde, this is a great spot. This park doesn't have any amenities like laundry, restrooms, or showers, but they have the best prices I could find in the area and they’re right next door to Cortez which has laundromats and everything else you need. I had great Verizon signal here, and full hookups, so it was exactly what I was looking for. The park is also nearly brand new, so the hookups and pads and everything are in great shape. My spot was perfectly level. Also the owner is a really awesome guy. I had an electrical issue with my rig and he came and helped me fix it. This place was exactly what I needed for a two week stay in Cortez, and I was really glad to find it.

The only downside is that you have to be able to tolerate quite a bit of noise because it is literally right off the highway. I also had some neighbors (permanent residents) that had dogs that barked quite often. I got used to the noise pretty quickly though and it wasn't an issue for me.
