The road in is a little bumpy, even the paved part but it’s not bad. We made it in a 22ft mini school bus just fine. There are certain parts you definitely wanna slow to a crawl on but totally doable. We found a nice spot that is flat, but it took us a while to find one. Drove the loop twice to find it but it’s worth it cause free. There is some noise from the gun range but it’s not annoying like other places we’ve stayed. The spot we ended up at had 2-4 bars of VZW LTE but a few of the spots we tried before landing here weren’t as good service wise. Just drive around and take your time and you’re bound to find somewhere worth spending a few nights at.

We’ve been traveling across the country, and we’re looking for something easy, quiet, and back to nature. This location was perfect! Take a look at the photos to see what I mean. When we arrived, it had just rained and the ground was a little bit of mud. More importantly,There was not a single being Within miles of us.
The road was a little bumpy but hardly noticeable. Really not a problem at all

What a beautiful and well maintained spot! Spread out sites about ~10 miles off of 40. Dirt roads required, but they were very well maintained. We went for a lovely night run under the milky way. Definitely a place where you’d want to keep an eye on your pet— there are critters out there. We’d definitely return!

We learned about this site via Campendium just yesterday. We’re traveling along I40 on our way to Zion. The park is about 10 miles from I40 and the last few miles are on a gravel road. We’re pulling a 22’ off-road equipped travel trailer that had no problem with the one section of park road that is severely rutted and steep. There are plenty of places to setup and camp that don’t require a drive down that hill. The park is large, covered with evergreens and short grasses. Our dog, who is a sticker magnet, hasn’t found one yet. We’re camping at the south side of the park with a nice view of the valley to the East. The site required quite a bit of leveling, but it was within the capabilities of our trailer. This is a place we could stay a couple of days if we weren’t headed west.

Awesome camping for multiple nights! We stayed for two and there was very little through traffic. A few trucks during the day, but no one else around. The area is very clean (don’t forget to pick up before you leave!) and there are small fire rings around designating camping spots. The road in is VERY rough and bumpy! We have a 24’ RV and had to get out to assess prior to ascending the final dirt hill. It was muddy and rocky when we drove up. Definitely wouldn’t try and go up with anything larger! Be aware of the Cati when off the path, especially if you have pets. We have two dogs and one of them ended up with pricks in his leg and paw.

There are very few downsides to this location for camping or boondocking. there are lots of sites open for rigs of almost any size. roads are fairly good near the beginning, but lots of ruts and difficult areas further back. trees separate sites so most have privacy. only downsides were gun range nearby (noise) and one area which seems popular for gun owners to shoot glass bottles (there are hundreds of glass bottle fragments covering the ground and lots of amo shells). weekends will see ATVs and motocycles. mobile service was just ok (suspect it is better closer to the city). overall, I gave it high ratings and feel it is an excellent spot!

Stayed here 5/9/20 to 5/24/20. As other reviewers have noted, the road can be a bit rough in a few spots, but I didn't have any trouble with my 26' TT. The rocky hill that others have mentioned is on the west side of the loop. I ended up grabbing a spot before the hill (going counter clockwise around the loop - coords 34.991811,-106.167717) so I never had to deal with it. I don't think it would have been a huge issue with my rig though. The hill itself isn't that big, it's just really rutted and rocky.
Overall this is a pretty awesome place. It was very lightly trafficked and I only ever saw a few other people camped there in the 15 days I stayed, even though there are tons of spots. There are spots for any size rig here, and most of them are very private.
It is true that there's a gun club just down the road, but this really didn't bother me too much. It wasn't constant and only occasionally would someone go out there and shoot. This was during COVID-19 though, so maybe under normal circumstances it's more busy. Also, because of the COVID thing they weren't enforcing any stay limits. Someone mentioned to me that there is normally a 7 day stay limit. In the whole time I was there though, I never once saw anyone out patrolling.
The only real downside here was the trash. I tried to do my part and pick up as much as I could, but I noticed areas I picked up got littered again even in the time I was there, so it's clearly an ongoing problem, which is unfortunate.
The roads around the park are really nice to walk and bike around. If you go out and explore you'll see there are tons of really neat campsites all over the park that you could get to with a smaller rig like a van or just as a tent camper.
Verizon service here was pretty decent. My iPhone XS gets terrible reception and it didn't do too well, but my jetpack picked up pretty good service and I was able to work and stream video without many problems.
Edgewood has just about anything you could need, including a Walmart, and Moriarty has quite a bit of stuff too. You're also only about 30 min from the Sandias here, which has a ton of great hiking. I dumped/filled at Happy Trails RV Park in Moriarty for $15 and the woman working there was extremely nice and helpful.

Headed back to Texas from Visiting the Grand Canyon and found this place on the app. Great directions. Once you turn off the paved road the gravel is kept up until you turn into Torrence park rd. It gets a little rough with a 10% grade right before the entrance. Otherwise was great for the overnight stay we needed. Park was empty and quite ran our genny to charge our electronics and water heater due to the gas side not running. Some site have trash in the fire rings. We didn’t use but picked up some small items to help out the RV community. Would definitely stay here again. Safe travels.

It was a nice place to camp overnight. I don't think there was anyone else in the campground when we stayed March 6th.
