The place is very clean with level gravel sites. Electric and water supplies in good working order. WiFi strong. Close to eating and gas establishments. Easy access to highway. If you want a small camp fire they supply wood. Have a nice sitting area to relax if you don’t want to get your chairs out. A little bit of highway noise. I wish there were more of these across the country. Would stay there again.

I recommend this place for a one night stop over. Easy to pull into sites and very level. Convenient to Cracker Barrel, Waffle House and McDonalds. Several gas stations and one truck stop size Speedway station. The restaurant parking lots cannot handle large rigs or RVs. I would stay here again.

Lakeview loop has very little view of the lake and zero access to it.
RVs longer than 25’ can only fit in Lakeview loop. Several areas are under renovation or construction, so progress is happening here. The sites throughout the park have very shaded & secluded picnic areas . Asphalt pads that are fairly level. Trees well trimmed for big rig clearance.
You can’t escape the highway noise anywhere in the park. Have a nice Ranger tour of Penn Farm. Hiking trails are nice. Easy access to restaurants and stores (Cedar Hill).
For those passing through Dallas Fort Worth, it is 4miles from I-20 easy in and out access to the park.
In the future if I want to stay on Joe Pool Lake, I will choose Loyd Park over this state park

Campground and bathrooms are very clean. Staff friendly and available if needed. Matt gave us a complete rundown of activities available in the city plus all the amenities the city has to offer. Very close to the city. Beautiful view of the lake and bridge. It is a nice flat ride by bicycle the ferry restaurants, brew pubs etc. You do hear the interstate traffic but that is expected being so close to the city and bride. Located right off highway. Gravel Pull throughs so level we did not have to unhitch. Staff vey helpful. Trees trimmed to assure slides open unobstructed. Highly recommend staying here.

Nice clean state park. Easy access to Austin if you wish to venture out of the park. I would stay here again. Those with large rigs might have trouble with the pull through sites. In the P/T, the loops are short loops making it difficult for 30’ and larger to drive through it without hitting electric/water posts or trees. We (35’ 5th wheel) only pulled in 2/3 of the way and had to back out of the spot on departure.

A very beautiful & tranquil place. It is definitely a place we will visit again. Lots of hiking trails. Boat ramp makes for easy kayak, paddle board launching. Here is information about the Pedernal Loop sites (Electric/Water loop).
2, 11, 12, 14: Good level site with room for RV and tent
13, 15 Very good level site for RV and tow vehicle
1 Very good level site, private with panoramic view of lake and mountains. Isolated from other campers. Parking the tow vehicle is tight if you have a
30' or greater RV. Longest walk to the bath house.
A1 & A2 have very good level site with great views and access to bath house for physically challenged
3, 5, 7 are the least desirable either due to RV pad or location of picnic table to RV Pad.
9, 10 Are pull off the road, they are not pull throughs, just parked on side of cam ground road. The view is the side of a small hill. Easy access to
vault toilet and bathhouse is close by.
For those with children, sites 11-15 are ideal. They are right near the playground. The playground is recessed below line of sight from the camp sites. Therefore, the view of the lake and mountains are not blocked by playground equipment. This makes them very accessible for the children but out of sight and sound from the sites.

The town of Abiquiu has a farmers’ market on Tuesdays at 4pm in parking lot across from Bode's. You can purchase locally grown and baked goods. Abiquiu Inn has reasonably priced good food.

For an adventurous drive, take the switch back road down the front side of the dam. I think the name of it is Rio Campo. The entrance is directly across the street from the Abiquiu Dam Visitor Center. Once at the bottom there is a dirt road that takes you deep into the canyon so you can experience up close the canyon beauty. Looks like great fishing there.

The park was clean. It is a very basis park. It has a covered shelter with a singles pickle ball court. Walk through the side gate to the ridge stairs, then A quarter mile walk over the bridge brings you to the Clinton Library. I recommend following their directions because the entire area is under construction. Bring bicycles so you can enjoy the trail along the river. Be sure to go to the Big Dam Bridge.
