Except for the sites just off the main road, you want to scout ahead to be sure you're not getting into a tight spot if you have a little bit bigger rig like ours. But we landed in a beautiful spot near the rocks and could barely see our nearest neighbor. Massive views out across the valley towards Bowie and beautiful sunsets above the rocks and the most incredible starry night I think I've ever seen. The cattle are definitely roaming around. I awoke one morning to find one of the steers had licked the entire side of my truck. I knew it was the steer because his horns had left nice little scratch marks in the paint. Four stars just because they are not making any effort to care for the secondary dirt roads that get you to some of the coolest camping spots in the area.

You'd never know you were in town or right by the highway when you slide into your pull-through site for the night. The restrooms are first class clean and the front office is freshly renovated. For $42 I feel like the sites should have been paved, but the gravel is neatly raked and level. They are a bit too close together for my taste, but we're the kind that would rather be in a state park or out in BLM territory if we could find it. The folks up front are super nice, and the check in process was easy. You feel like you're in the forest but Safeway is just up the street. Four stars is just for the slightly too high price. We got the Good Sam discount but no additional discount was offered when we said we wouldn't even hook up to any services. But I'm nitpicking. We'd stay again in a heartbeat.

This quirky little campground is just a quarter mile from Marfa. Others have complained about the noise from trains but only one train came through while we were there and it was early in the evening. Noise from the highway was also minimal since the speed limit is 45mph in front of the park. We were there over a Saturday night so maybe there's more traffic during the week. The gravel sites were completely flat with full hook ups and 50amps. The restrooms were clean and heated, and the community room was as good as I've ever seen with washer/dryer, fridge, microwave, potbelly stove, and a homey west Texas atmosphere. The campground was completely full so don't expect to snag one of the 14 spots without a reservation which must be done online. Nothing really very beautiful to look at out there on the prairie except a kind of cool modern art version of something that resembles Stonehenge.

Great location and speedy check in. Our assigned site was so tight that we could never have gotten in. Thankfully our neighbor switched with us. Packed tight, lots of noise, golf carts whizzing by with stereos blasting. If you want a party and close neighbors this is your scene. It was not our scene.

Beautiful setting out on a peninsula and isolated from any kind of highway noise. Super friendly staff at the front gate. The park had a water leak due to the heavy rains this year so water service was off during our stay. The campground is old and. The majority of the sites have uneven, broken asphalt. Water hook-ups (if they work) are shared with an adjacent site. Bring a LONG hose (minimum 50ft to 75 ft) to get water and don’t assume it’s only your water. Our site was very hard to navigate with our 25 ft rig. The site is perfectly set near the lake but don’t reserve it unless you’re very experienced getting in and out. The grill was rusted through on the bottom. Bath houses were dated but clean and fresh. If Oklahoma would spend a few bucks this would be a premier destination. But don’t assume your GPS is giving you good directions. It is not.

Spectacular views of the valley. Don’t bring a big rig. There were MAYBE theee or four sites that could take our 25 ft Airstream. Still, nicely paved roads and great amenities w picnic tables and grills.

This campground is exceptionally well maintained and it is rare to have so much space between full hook-up sites. Except for the looming power plant on the other side of the lake, I would have given it five stars. Bath house was like new and extra clean. Our site was level although it took on a lot of water in the heavy rain. We enjoyed hiking to the waterfall and walks around the campground. Spring was in full force and the dogwood trees were in full bloom. The power plant is out there across the lake but pretty far away. We could just barely hear the low hum of the turbines from the natural gas fired plant. A train goes past somewhere in the distance beyond the power plant every weekday morning about 6:15 or 6:30. Nice piers are built out along the shoreline for fishing or parking a boat - as far as my fishing rod could tell, there weren’t many fish to catch along the campground. Rent a pontoon boat at the boat house, buy some live bait, swim off the sandy beach or visit the well stocked store. We would certainly visit again as the pluses far outweigh a few minor annoyances like the sewer connection being oddly far away (bring your extension hose). In sites with water only or water/electric it looked to us like the water was often on the wrong side of the site - so bring extra hose.
