Beautiful park, lots of grass and trees. Interior roads are paved as are the sites. W/E with a dump station on site, utilities are easy to reach from the back-in sites. The park is between John Day and Mt.Vernon on Hwy. 26. We are used to traffic noise, Hwy. 26 is not that busy, so noise was not an issue. Our site #27 was perfect for satellite reception with clear path due south through the trees. This is a first come, first served park, we arrived around noon and had plenty of choices. Camp hosts on site are friendly. I would give the place a 5 star but for the lack of sewer hook-up at each site instead of one dump station. Good stop to go see John Day Fossil Beds Nat'l Monument and Painted Hills.

We would only return if we could find no other options with availability, mostly due to price and location. Wellington is a bit far out of Fort Collins and a longer way to see the national park. The approximate quarter-mile access road to the driveway is dirt/gravel and at the pavement transition is seriously pot-holed, GO SLOW! The interior roads are a mix of concrete and dirt gravel, many of the dirt/gravel roads being HEAVILY rutted, GO SLOW! Our site was concrete pad pull-thru with FHU's. There is a nice office/rec room with showers and bathrooms, the pool is adjacent to that building. We knew going in that the pool was currently closed for repairs, but with prices this high I would think a little more concentrated attention on getting things fixed would be a priority. It did not appear that any major repairs were under way, the pool was full of water and pump running while we were there. Nobody went near the pool area during our 3 day stay. An unusable pool in mid-July in 90 degree temps is not a real popular draw I would think. There are the usual playground areas, dog run, tent and cabin areas, & outdoor pavilion for BBQ parties.
