RV camp is a work in progress, only open 1 year. Beautiful area, pastoral with cows grazing next door. Tim even came by daily to play with our retriever dog. Gravel and grassy park. Go to the Cooky Jar Cafe 10 miles away,

Yes a beautiful place, and wonderful hosts. However no sewer hookup! They have a bathroom inside the red brick house, but if you have your own toilets you had better not outstay your sewer tank space. Surprise: no RV camp, just a 30/50 amp electric and water going to a spot in the driveway. Room for 1RV only, plus tents. Our dog loved running free when there.

We have always enjoyed the Army corps of engineers camps, and rates include our federal senior pass discount. (50% off). We stayed here twice, once on the west side of Rend Lake, and once at Gun Creek. Both large private sites, and we found some with full hookups. (They also have a variety of hookups). Beautiful trees and lakes, with privacy too! Don’t like the reserve system though…we called and were treated to many recordings plus big hold times. ReserveAmerica is a loser. But we showed up in afternoon and the host working at the entrance station registered us. (They are not available from 3 til 4 PM)

Grassy areas between sites. The location is the best thing about it...near Wright Brothers park, and access to Cape Hatteras.

Beautiful gardens, but sites a bit crowded. We had a site with a concrete slab behind it to view over an embankment the stream and flowers (cost extra $10 but worth it) and had a good time there.
Best thing was Joel (owner) loaned us his power drill and supplied free screws so I could repair some loose screws on my slideout! Wow, Thanks Joel!! He is great!!

Good things:
Large campground, many sites open. Friendly helpful staff. Pretty entrance road and ok lake and large sites.
Bad: Trash dumpster is huge and not emptied often, gross. 250k generator on all the time, loud noise. Gravel roads, dusty. “Grass” area not watered and sparse, no curbs. Ugly place.

We arrived at 3 PM and were told that check in time wasn’t until 4. So if we stayed anywhere on the property we would have an early arrival fee of $20 added onto our $79 reservation cost! So we exited and waited an hour at a gas station until 4 PM.
Also the water hookups are located on the wrong side of the unit from the other hookups (50% of sites). So I had to scramble around in the gravel to get my water hose attached. Not good!
