First time I went to Detroit I luckily had a cool enough friend to bring me here. YUM. This place is incredibly delicious (hangover special is a lot of healing goodness), but it's also a pretty cool insight into what's been happening in Detroit for the last few years. If you're looking for a breakfast joint that brings together different ends of the community, hit it.
This place is truly special. In the summer everyone (all ages, seriously!) comes here to play cards, picnic and sometimes grab a pint. Right on the lakefront this place is literally buzzing with good vibes.
One of the only soccer bars in town. Great real Irish pub vibe with a basement that can host a crowd. Some amazing fried mushroom balls to be had here. Expect a crowd on a big premier league night.
Yum. Very good margaritas and classic mexican food. Incredibly colorful with plenty of seating space. Call for a reservation if it's a weekend though you're likely to be able to walk in as well. Nearby some mainstay theaters. The duck appetizer is incredibly delicious.
Yup this is your standard Starbucks. It's on a bustling working corner so it's the place to grab a coffee to go. The Starbucks two blocks north on Chapel is the student hang out where sitting is more kosher/pleasant.
Simply put, I really like this place. Not too much craft beer culture in New Haven (though Bar Pizza is good too) and they've got a relaxed atmosphere that mixes beer + good food very well. Stand up at a table or sit in a booth. Candle vibes.
You have to pass this lil guy if you're accessing Winchester Bay. Very cool that you can tour this lighthouse - though call ahead to make sure their hours aren't obscured. Not every lighthouse lets you inside to see the real deal so it's worth it in that sense. There's a very small sandy beach nearby at Lake Marie where visitors can hang out.
I don't remember this hike too well (took it when I was really young) but I've heard it's a really beautiful little hike with a vista point at the top. My brother was named after this place so it must be cool enough to inspire a name :)
They have belly dancing here! Need I say more?
Ok... I wanted to hate this place but it's not horrible. Definitely clashes with the more hipster establishments like Half-Cut across the street. It's the only place in OTR with a Ticker and tons of TV screens so that's a win/lose. You're bound to find the game you want here though and I was overtly impressed with the service. Meatball deal is worth it.
